NAS crash during scheduled reboot

After a scheduled reboot last night, my NAS has never came back online. I woke up this morning and found I could not see it on network. Went downstairs, and unit is running, saying "mounting Volume", all fans are on at full speed. I shut it down manually, waited a few minutes, and powered it up. Out of EIGHT hard drives, only TWO have green lights on! The other six are off completely. The NAS ...

RTRR Protocol specifications

Since we are implementing a two-way realtime sync now, which works correctly most of the time, I would like to know more about the actual protocol specifications.

I can`t seem to find any technical specifications, i.e. how files are compared (modification timestamp or ...?), how files are transferred (i.e. what encryption is used, what compression techniques... etc.), how files are being monitored for changes (if a new version of a file is uploaded throught RTRR ...

Rsync: Can't get 1024 bytes share memory.

Just recently updated our TS639 to firmware version 3.8.1 Build 20121205.

Now constantly getting these errors whenever rsync runs ( ********* failed: rsync: Can't get 1024 bytes share memory. Rsync daemon doesn't exist but all function will work normally.(-2)#012: Unknown error 4294967294 (-2). Begin 1st retry.)

All worked fine before the firmware upgrade.

Is this a firmware bug or something else?

Thanks

RRTR : SSL won't connect

Hi folks.

A few image below, will help more than tens line of speech.
The replication is made between my ANAS and a Seedbox, which has a FTP Server (SSL or not)
I don't understand why it failed to connect with SSL enabled (right port) , while FileZilla is able.
Any idea or help welcome.

Non SSL connection works

Unable to Backup LUN Snapshot to Remote QNAP

Hi

Following the idea of http://www.qnap.com/static/useng/fw_v35/snapshot.html we have tried to set up the following senario:

Image

We have two QNAPs setup as suggested, with the primary unit having the LUN and a LUN snapshot job already working.

The issue we're facing is when we try to create a backup job on Primary NAS to backup the LUN snapshot to Backup NAS (the green arrow on the picture above). When we try to create a LUN ...

TS-639 down - Recovery plans?

Hi dear community,

as i googled for days now, i see, there are many unanswered questions in the forums.

I hope it was no mistake in trusting on qnap and the community.

MY TS-639 stopped booting any more.

My first goal is to access my encrypted external harrdisks.

I noted down all passphrases before.

I installed ubuntu 12.10 in a vmware environment.
I did "sudo apt-get update -f", "sudo apt-get upgrade -f" and "sudo apt-get ...

Full system backup

I have spent quite some time setting up my QNAP box (installed qpgk files, used ipkg, tweaked settings, modified autorun.sh, etc). In case of hardware failure of the NAS, I would like to do minimal work. I understand there is "Back up/Restore Settings" feature. However, there is very little in terms of what that actually saves. As noted by flexobrian in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=10120&hilit=rsync, the backup seems to save ...

ssh login with keys for unison

Hi,

I need to login from one qnap to another with ssh without password in order to get unison working. The rsa key is there and authorized_keys is there on the other server but when I try to login I keep getting a password prompt. The ssh logs only say "failed", is there a way to get more debug info for ssh?

I noticed that admins home directory does not exist, I fixed it with ...

Rsnapshot Backups not incremental?

Hello all,

i recently installed rsnapshot on my 419P+ in order to take incremental backups using hardlinks and store them directly on the harddrive itself.

Currently each backup increases disk usage dramatically. If i take a look in the Administration interface of the qnap the disk size of the backup folder has already 3 times the size of the folders i selected for backup. As I didnt change something since installing rsnapshot in the filesystem ...

NAS Server og Rsync Server

I am setting up remote replication between 2 Qnap devices. When creating the replication job in the Wizard I wonder if I should use "Server Type" = "NAS Server" or "Rsync Server"?

And what are the differences between them?

The target Qnap is an old one running on a slow internet conntection, så I would like to have the replication as effective as possible.

Thanks in advance,
