I was wondering if anyone has setup a one touch with a usb DVD/Blueray drive to rip discs? It would be nice to just hit the one touch button and have the movie on the dvd or Blueray ripped into mkv format. Then dumped into a certain directory.

I saw in the forums that someone upgraded to 2GB RAM for the 559 so I think I am going to do this. But I saw other models people have upgraded the CPU. Is that possible with the 559 Pro+? Does anyone have any other recommended upgrades? It's pretty slow with encryption turned on so I would like to give it some boost.

usually i'm pretty crafty into thinking about modifying a pc system but somehow i never thought about doing it on a Qnap. For some reason i considered it to be a close system. I read i couple of things in this forum that really interested me.

Right now i don't possess one but was always interested in the ts-412 since i wanted a 4-bay nas not expensive. The x69 are way cooler but ...

I have found a pl2303 driver here on the forum and I succeeded in loading, but I still can't use this prolific usb-serial adapter. It works on xp and win7 and I'm aware of counterfeit and all kinds of problems with prolific chips.
But I believe I read somewhere that on the newest firmware 3.8.1 this driver would be standard available. Since my qnap is running stable and several services I'm not keen on upgrading. ...

I was thinking of doing a mod to my TS212 to shut down an external portable hard drive when the unit goes into standby mode.

I have Samsung TV with support for media on USB. When I plug in QNAP using USB to USB cable, TV does not see any files on the server. Any suggestion?

well I installed 2x kingston KVR16S11/2 in mine now.

the 1GB stick it came with was glued but was easy to remove enough to remove the 1gb stick.
and it booted fine and shows 3947.4 MB ram.

Having an issue with my 509, upgraded it some while ago to an E7600 and 4Gb of RAM with no issues, liked the idea of having 64bit via the 809FW for virtualbox, so I ordered a 1gb Transcend DOM (128, 256 and 512 out of stock) and went about the upgrade.

All went well, having updated from 1.09 to 3.6.1 then to 3.7.3, I find myself with the SATA order being completely wrong ...
