I have a TS-459U-SP (firmware 3.8.3) with 4 Seagate disks ST31500341AS CC1H configured in RAID 5 (one volume)

I've been using it for about 3 years without problems; after upgrading firmware (from 3.3.3 to 3.8.3) I'm having some problems with one of the disks (obviously the 2 things can be not related)

Disk 2 says "bad blocks" and in the logger I can find
medium error. Please run bad block scan ...

What is the recommended method of checking and updating the HD Firmware?

Have just purchased my first NAS - the 569-pro. Great box so far. I have used Squeezeboxes for 10+ years (original SLIMP3 user), so am well versed in LMS from a windows perspective. My Apple Time machine backup is taking much too long.

My NAS is configured with 3 x 3TB 7200RPM drives configured as Raid 5.

I am creating a backup via Time Machine using an AFP Mapped Drive.

I am connecting to my NAS via a gigabit ethernet via an Asus N56U Router.
