I'm no Linux expert, but it seems to me that the instructions to change the default autorun.sh file to a link include deleting the default autorun.sh without mentioning you might wanna copy it to /pathtoyourfile/ first if you havent already?

How to change a shared folder name and not lose data:
What is the correct way for renaming shares? You only gave the easy way!

now i perhaps misunderstand what you write page 30 of 35:
"Limiting User Access to FTP
You can control who can log into your FTP server very simply. The ftp process uses a
file named ftpusers to see who can have access. This file contains a list of users that can
log into ftp."

I read elsewhere on internet that:
The /etc/ftpusers file contains a list of local user names that the ftpd server does not allow remote File Transfer Protocol (FTP) clients to use.

so, users allowed or not allowed ?

You are correct. The ftpusers file denies access. I thought I corrected this before I posted it. I have corrected it and will hopefully be posting version 1.1 soon.

From the proftpd site - Legacy FTP servers generally check a special authorization file (typically /etc/ftpusers) when a client attempts to authenticate. If the user's name is found in this file, FTP access is denied. For compatibility sake, proftpd defaults to checking this file during authentication. This behavior can be suppressed using the UseFtpUsers configuration directive.

Hi- Nice compilation. One thing missing though is "how to hot swap dead drive" - I have a TS409, in Raid 1- 500G Drive 1, 500G Drive 2. Drive 2 light is green constant (not flashing like Drive 1), and SMART says there is nothing in Drive 2, there is also a constant high pitched noise coming from what I think is Drive 2. I can still access my data, phew.

So-- what next? This is RAID 101 right? Can I just hot swap a new drive, straight from the bubble wrap? does it have to be another 500G? It looks like its not in RAID1 anymore, since the capacity with one drive is showing up as full 500G. This was easy when I had no data on the drives, but now that I've got data- I really don't want to mess it up!

Any thoughts comments, or additional chapter on this to the "how to guide" would be great!

Does the log and/or device configuration pages say that your raid is in degraded mode? To replace a dead drive just pull it out and replace it with another drive. The rebuild should start automatically. The drive size must be the same or larger although the additional space on a larger drive will not be used.

Two questions though:

1) is this guide mostly relevant for the TS-809?
2) How do you enter command line mode? Is it through a module, or is there an option in the web interface to get a command line window?

Sorry for the last question, I know it's very basic, but I'm not experienced in Unix (yet).

Thanks. I have a newer version (1.1) that I have not posted yet. I'll send it to you in a private message.

1 - Yes it is relevant to the 809.
2 - You enter command line mode using a utility like PuTTY which is described in the manual.

I have downloaded PuTTY and have managed to connect.

My ts-809 is formatting 8 x 1.5TB at the moment (raid 6, ext 4 with latest beta firmware), so I'm going to let it do its thing before I experiment with a command line...
