TS-419p II Newbie Help request….

Postby travismuir » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:28 pm

Hi guys,

I have just bought my first QNAP and I'm having some problems setting up the notifications settings..
Im with bigpond in australia and i have input all the correct settings that they have provided me, however when i try to send test emails I get an error message telling me to check my settings. I have already setup mycloudnas and using download station and they works fantastic so its obviously connecting to the internet. I don't know what I'm missing… also does anyone know of a good SMS service that charges per sms notification instead of in bulk sms as I don't think I should be getting many notifications as i only want to get sms ones when its an emergency….

if anyone has had the same problems please let me know how you fixed it? i am happy to call internationally if you think it would be easier to give instructions over the phone…

please let me know

Following these instructions, I would first check if the account used is converted to Windows Live. If it is I would try to change this:
SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
Port: 587
Use SSL/TLS secure connection: ticked
Protocol Type: TLS

Going with these setting will at least have the advantage that you don't need to change it again when you're being "...updated to Bigpond Email with Windows Live during 2012...".

I'm not Australian and have no experience of the ISP in question so I may have misunderstood something in the few minutes when I looked at this. If so I'm sorry I added more confusion.
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!
