smtp server

Discussion on setting up QNAP NAS products.

smtp server

Postby techno_one » Wed Jul 18, 2012 2:49 am

hello everyone., I have just setup my 639 box in a radio 6 config. everything seams to be fine, apart from the fact I am unable to get the box to send mail upon alerts ect. . I have checked and configured the smtp server settings so they are exactly as gmail said they should be... account name . ( which is the email addy in full ) then the gmail password, using ssl as below

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS3 or SSL: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465
Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com or @your_domain.com)
Email Address: your email address (username@gmail.com or username@your_domain.com)
Password: your Gmail password

Yet it still fails to send the email. I have no trouble using gmail on the laptop connected to the same router. ( fritz box 7270. ) so I must have the ports open though the router ect.. or am i confused there? the laptop is wifi and the NAS is via the LAN ? but that shouldn't make any difference?

Thanks for any help. Very impressed with this NAS. Top stuff.

What neither QNAP Web UI/Help/Uer's Guide nor Google says:

Sender: must be an e-mail address - can be the same as your Google mail if uncertain

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 587
Sender: admin@ts-639pro.whatever.domain
[x] Enable SMTP authentication
User name: yourgmailname@gmail.com
Password: yourgmailpassword
[x] Use SSL/ TLS secure connection
Protocol type TLS

Having the same problem, and indeed, Sender is not an email adress in my case... thx a lot, I will test it this evening. does it have to be an existing email adress, or can it be eg : no-reply@whatever-domain.com

This does not depend on the NAS - this depends on your e-mail service provider and it's server set-up.
