Replacing HDD in RAID Array

Postby nrmsmith » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:04 pm

If I want to replace 1 HDD in my RAID10 array with a different drive, and the replacement drive is the SAME SIZE as the one that is being replaced, do I still use the "Expand Capacity" button/option in RAID Management?

Thanks

You are not expanding capacity so why would you use the expand capacity process? Just pull the drive and wait for the NAS to recognize that it is gone and then insert the new drive. Rebuilt will start automatically.

ok, fair enough, I was just checking.

I expected that it would have to be done in a controlled replacement via the control software but couldn't see anything other than the Expand Capacity button, which obviously wasn't exactly what was needed.

Thanks

Drives that have not failed are not normally replaced which is why there is no way to do it via an interface.
