Old NAS to new NAS data transfer...how to?

Postby wizb » Sun Aug 05, 2012 3:45 am

Just got myself a new TS419P II 8tb.
i currently have a seagate blackarmour 440 2tb NAS.
my query is, what is the best way to move all my data from the old NAS to the new one? its a big amount of data and was thinking there must be a better way of doing it than to copy/paste data across.
any help would be apreciated. :)

Across the network is the most convenient, but will be slow.
Connecting the HDD's via USB or eSATA will be faster, but far less convenient. (Use eSATA if possible, faster than USB).

What ever you do do not insert the drive internally. The NAS will format it and you will lose your data. Use external connection or transfer via rsync if the other device supports it.

How do you know no files were transferred? What are you using to look at the file system? What are you using to transfer the files?

Try RTRR; Server: "127.0.0.1", copy from "eSATADisk1" to whatever folder you want.
