TS-459 Pro+ with two NICs

Post by nathans77 »

The TS-459 Pro+ has two NICs. I would like to know if it is possible to increase the input for backups by connecting the second NIC. And if so, how that can be done. Thanks

Port Trunking doesn't help in this circumstance. The useful Port Trunking options on the NAS require an expensive "Managed" Gigabit Switch, and this won't do anything for your throughput unless there are multiple Dual-NIC devices accessing it at the same time.

Check out the Port Trunking information in the fine manual.

I did my main 469L(Q1) with LACP and have had good results. While backing up to two other NAS's (A second 469L(Q2) and a NetReady Ultra2+) and get ~190MB throughput between the two boxes. The Ultra was on the same switch as the Q1 and the Q2 was 2 switches (regular switches) downstream. Only the Q1 had LACP enabled, and of course a managed switch to support it. It will never exceed the speed of a regular connect to any one transfer. You need multiple connections to realize any speed increase.
Production :
TVS-673 4.3.4 0387
4 X 3TB WD RED : 1 X 4TB HGST DESKSTAR R5
32GB
LAN-10G1SR-D, FiberHal for Cisco SFP-10G-SR
NETGEAR ProSAFE SS3300-28X

Backup :
TS-469L 4.3.4 0387
4 X 3TB WD RED R5
3GB
Located detached garage .. cheap offsite solution ...

2nd TS-469L awaiting drives and reassignment for front-line duty .......

With numbers like that I'd say your configuration was definitely successful. Great work!

It's more of a "can I do" as apposed to " I need to do" thing......
