TS-453 Pro vs TVS463

Post by iggy28 »

I have poured through the web pages and noted the obvious differences in ports, ram etc. I would just like to know what the core benefit of one over the other, is it just the ability to run virtualisaton as I note there are differences. I am essentially a home user but I am disabled so it is difficult for me to have a PC upstairs and my TV etc downstairs. I would like to be able to sit downstairs where my TV is and use my Laptop(wireless only) to be able to run VM's and have KODI for the TV. Which unit would be best to purchase and if the NAS is located upstairs in my office how would I get KODI on the TV. Unfortunately I have a wife who doesn't like anything that spoils the karma of her lounge. I'm sure it must be possible with the right unit. At present I have been using Plex to play stuff from my laptop onto the TV. I just cannot unfortunately have the ability to go up and downstairs at will.

The TVS-463 was launched this year and the TS-453 Pro was launched last year.
The TVS-463 looks to have some slightly better specs, but you'll definitely pay more for the device.
If you haven't done so, already, you can compare your devices, from here:
https://www.qnap.com/i/en/product/

Both units can run VM's. Of course, you'll need to run an extra cable from the NAS to the
router, as the VM uses it's own ethernet port.

To set up KODI on the NAS, you'd install the QNAP HD Station package.
Plug an HDMI cable from the NAS into the TV. Set the output of your TV to HDMI, then
run KODI from the NAS, using a WMC remote control, QNAP remote control, keyboard and mouse,
or the Qremote app.

That's all I got, for now. I hope it helps.

Many thanks, I have looked at the compare list but it's just spec difference and doesn't have a more descriptive information. Also as mentioned in my original post the NAS would be upstairs at back of the house and the TV is downstairs at the front of the house.

Just stream your media using Twonky Media (qpkg)as Kodi is not an option in your case.

I have the 463 and it performs very well.

Comparison side by side is here

https://www.qnap.com/i/uk/product/contr ... %5B%5D=149

The 463 is slightly better in performance and has optional 10gb network ports and up to 16gb of RAM with two HDMI ports.
