I have an IT business, we've deployed quite a few 453 Pro with Crucial, Corsair, and A-Data ddr3L 16gb ram. Not one problem

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
I am new to memory upgrading. I have a TS-653Pro with 8GB RAM installed.
Like many here, I wish to run multiple VM and 8GB seems to be not enough. Below are my concerns:
(1) What brand/model RAM are most suitable for
(a) performance
(b) value
(2) What firmware shall I use so that it recognises the additional RAM? (I am using QTS 4.1)
(3) What additional steps need to perform after install new RAM modules?
(4) Will I lose any data in the NAS?
Thank you.

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
At the same clock - for a TS-x51/TS-x53/TS-x51+/TS-x53A we talk of DDR3L low voltage, 1600 MHz == PC3L-12800 SO-DIMM ... C9 is faster than C10 is faster than C11. In other words, less latency does provide slightly better RAM benchmark performance ... at the end of the day, I strongly doubt you will experience any difference in the NAS operations.nitehawk wrote:(a) performance
In comparing the same clock and latency ... the price.nitehawk wrote:(b) value
Some builds struggled over certain memory configurations, QTS fails to show some information in the QTS desktop. Stay current...nitehawk wrote:(2) What firmware shall I use so that it recognises the additional RAM? (I am using QTS 4.1)
Except of potentially adjusting virtual machine configurations - none.nitehawk wrote:(3) What additional steps need to perform after install new RAM modules?
You are the NAS admin in charge for keeping backups. Any change, any update can break something.nitehawk wrote:(4) Will I lose any data in the NAS?

Is it wiser to upgrade to the latest firmware and then upgrade the memory from 8GB to 16 16GB?schumaku wrote:At the same clock - for a TS-x51/TS-x53/TS-x51+/TS-x53A we talk of DDR3L low voltage, 1600 MHz == PC3L-12800 SO-DIMM ... Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Hi Schumaku or anyone else,
Once the new ram is in (16GB) and recognised, any reason why in VM settings configuration page it does not allow it to select more than 5.5GB ram allocation? Using Windows 10 on Latest QTS. Also tried it with Windows 7 same issue. Also I have turned off both VM's before changing settings?
As an aside. My monitors Webcam (seperate USB cable fro monitor to NAS isnt recognised in Windows 10 but is in Windows 7? Any ideas? For that or how to get the VM to recognise the USB inputs each time started.
Thanks

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
No idea - what NAS model exaclty (forum profile looks like a rack mount unit), QTS firmware and build number, and Virtualisation Station Version.pcfun wrote:Once the new ram is in (16GB) and recognised, any reason why in VM settings configuration page it does not allow it to select more than 5.5GB ram allocation? A screen shot of the new Custom VM would be interesting, ie.
The USB connection is assigned to the VM in question?pcfun wrote:As an aside. My monitors Webcam (seperate USB cable fro monitor to NAS isnt recognised in Windows 10 but is in Windows 7? Any ideas? For that or how to get the VM to recognise the USB inputs each time started.

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Hi Thanks,
TS-453Mini
QTS 4.2.0 build number 20160130
Virtualisation Station version 2.0, build version 3924
You are correct, I had attached the Monitor Webcam to the WIndows10 VM but still doesnt show up when using skype or zoom or anything else i guess
Attached some screenshots, if need any others please let me know which. VM is already created and couldnt find exact screen you had as I think that was when I first set it up
Thanks

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Try to create a new VM ((just open the pop-up) - I'm keen to see if the Virtualisation Station does recognize 16 GB on this platform. This is also where you can select the VM memory size.

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Hello,
I confirm this RAM works : memoire_DDR3_So_Dimm KINGSTON Hyper X Impact Black Series 16 Go (2x8 Go) | 1600MHz | CL9 | 1.35V | HX316LS9IBK2/16
Someone has tried it a cpu upgrade ?

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Thank you Schumaku and Metalx. I have Started to create the new VM. It does allow me to allocate up to 14.5GB RAM. ANy idea why it does not allow me to change existing VM's RAM allocation and if not I should be able to migrate the existing Win10VM to a new VM with the new RAM allocation? How much RAM woudl you suggest to allocate please to allow good performance of NAS or is 1.5GB enough for NA?.
Also I am still having the problem where my Win7Ultimate VM can see the Webcam built in to the monitor but WIn10 cant. Also in Win7 and Win10 it does not seem to recognise the Speakers attached to the USB hub for the VM. I have a setup where HDMI comes out of NAS to Audioextractor and then HDMI carries on to Monitor, and a Audio 3.5mm comes out to speakers. Then a power USB goes from Speakers to USB hub also. I really want to be able to use Skype on my Win10VM with my speakers and monitor webcam. Should I be able to?
Have attached VM screenshots.

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
When it's powered-off, in the [Virtual Machine Settings] control is at a slightly "odd" location IMHO (I'm alone on that?) does allow changing changing an existing VM here:pcfun wrote:ANy idea why it does not allow me to change existing VM's RAM allocation
USB 3.0 pass-through should be fully workable starting from WIndows 8, 8.1, and 10. But then - I'm not fully convinced about the USB hub connection.

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Hi folks, QNAP 453-Pro owner and I can also confirm success with 2xCrucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM 1.35V CL11 memory. See link here at amazon (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B006YG8 ... ge_o03_s00)
See below for screen shots. Now I can get my 4GB and larger VM's working in VS. A great purchase that keeps on over-achieving....

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
i tried that, pushed it up to 12288gb ram from 5632gb and hit apply and still wont change. only if i create a new vm but then that gets complicated with trying to transfer old vm to new one whilst keeping new ram settings. Must be easier to just slide the slider and hit apply. no idea why not working??
does it matter how much RAM i allocate to still hasve nas work efficiently or is the 1.5gb enough on the NAS
My sound is working on chrome in qts. so just need to make it work in VM with win 10 and skype or zoom??

Re: TS-x53 PRO and 16GB Ram
Thanks again Schumaku,
I deleted the old VM and created a new one and re-installed Windows10. The new one and Windows7Ultimate now allow me to change the RAM when teh VM is powered down, so it was some kind of problem after the installation of the previous WIn10 VM. Would someone please advise on teh following still?
How much RAM would you suggest to allocate out of the 14.5GB to Windows10 to allow good performance of NAS as well or is 1.5GB enough for NAS? FOr some reason with 8GB or 12GB Ram Windows10 is still clunky and slow, whereas Windows 7 is super fast.
Also I am still having the problem where my Win7Ultimate VM can see the Webcam built in to the monitor but WIn10 cant (I can attach them to each VM but none of the programs can see it in win10) . Also in Win7 and Win10 it does not seem to recognise the Speakers attached to the USB hub for the VM. I have a setup where HDMI comes out of NAS to Audio extractor and then HDMI carries on to Monitor, and a Audio 3.5mm comes out to speakers. Then a power USB goes from Speakers to USB hub also. I really want to be able to use Skype on my Win10VM with my speakers and monitor webcam. Should I be able to? Is tehre a sound card in the NAS? If I go into Chrome on the NAS welcome screen it plays the sound.
Appreciate any help anyone can provide.
Many thanks
