Re: News about TVS-X71 Series (Intel I7 Processor)?
Are the CPUs on the TVS-x71 series socketed or embedded? According to Intel-ARC, the i7-4790S and i5-4590S come in embedded varieties, however the and i3-4150 and G3250 do not. I would assume they'd all be the socketed variety with the same motherboard?

The "embedded" describes a different product life cycle (ie. longer availability), not a different mount or socket.

Hi Shane_O,
The CPUs in the TVS-x71 series are desktop versions of CPUs.

I don't see why not, they are desktop CPUs which are only available in socket versions.paxtond wrote:QNAPJason wrote:Hi Shane_O,

Just had a very disappointing email from my vendor.
Qnap will only be selling the I3 model in the uk and none of the others.
why they feel we don't deserve the choice that the usa market gets is a bit worrying

Re: News about TVS-X71 Series (Intel I7 Processor)?
Thanks team.
I've had a couple of quotes from a local vendor in Australia:
TVS-871-PT = A$2029.00
TVS-871-i3 = A$2139.00
TVS-871-i7 = A$3349.00
The cost of a core i7 4790S cpu from the same vendor is A$419.00
Wouldn't it make sense to buy the TVS-871-PT and upgrade it's cpu (and ram of course)???

It makes a lot of sense. That is what a lot of people did with the X70 series. The only issue is do you want to be the first guy to do the upgrade on your own?Shane_O wrote:Thanks team.

Re: News about TVS-X71 Series (Intel I7 Processor)?
Good news: I just successfully replaced the CPU and RAM(16GB 3rd Party).
I bought a TVS-871-i3-4G and replaced the i3-4150 with an i7-4790S. The RAM I used is the ADATA 16GB kit AD3S1600W8G11-2 (2x8GB). I didn't do much testing yet, but I don't expect any problems now that the system bootet.
The first boot after replacing the CPU took a bit longer than usual (NAS restarted once during the boot process), but worked after all.
If you do this you void your warranty, as you have to break a warranty-sticker (only when replacing the CPU, not RAM), but it saved me ~400 Euro considering I get around 90 Euro on Ebay for the i3-4150 and the 4GB RAM (which is also ADATA brand). If you want to replace the CPU, you have to remove loads of screws and disassamble half the NAS.

mean222: Could you provide a picture and/or the part number of the 4GB RAM module that came with the TVS-871-i3-4G please?

Re: News about TVS-X71 Series (Intel I7 Processor)?
I am considering similar approach (it would make great since for me since I have a spare i7 processor). I wonder why you went with TVS-871-i3-4G. Why not TVS-871-PT-4G? I believe it's the same socket.mean222 wrote:Good news: I just successfully replaced the CPU and RAM(16GB 3rd Party).

Re: News about TVS-X71 Series (Intel I7 Processor)?
Yes it certainly is. The reason I bought the i3 version was just that I didn't find a merchant with the PT version in stock in my region. Did some math and came to the conclusion that buying a TVS-871-i3-4G is not that much more expensive. And I think the i3 sells better on ebay after all.

My CPU idles at 46C in a 21C Room. While transcoding a full hd movie it stays at ~60C without temperature warnings.
