Looks like the info on it will be released in a day or 10.... given that it is another TVS- model, it will focus again on 4K video transcoding and playback

hi,
The TVS-x71 series will include Intel Haswell-based Pentium, i3, i5, and i7 processors. (4 bay only available with Pentium & i3).
These can output 4K video via HDMI and can transcode 4K videos (H.264), with 2 PCIe slots available for network expansion.
These will be available at the end of January. You may check with your reseller for the availability.

I'm very interested in the 471 as my first NAS. :DD

Although I need a back-up target for multiple PC's/laptops It's primarily to hold and stream our media collection using Plex, so need a cpu with enough Oomph to transcode if required as Plex doesn't support hardware transcoding. Have to say QNAP hardware spec's appear to blow out the water most other manufacturers on 4 bay units, so this is looking a great option.

I'm also intersted in the ability to add some element of future proofing by being able to swap out the i3 for a 5/7 at some point. I'd expect any FCLGA 1150 compatible chips to be suitable to plug and go, but a confirm would be great?

All CPU installed in the TVS-x71 Series model variants are FCLGA1150 sockets, all require a cooling as per the Intel Thermal Solution Specification PCG 2013C, the TDP is in the range between 53...65W. The TVS-x71 announcements show these CPU types:

Intel G3250 3.2 GHz, max TDP 54 W
Intel Core i3-4150 3.5 GHz, max TDP 54 W
Intel Core i5-4590S 3.0 GHz (Intel Turbo Boost max 3.7 GHz), max. TDP 65 W
Intel Core i7-4790S 3.2 GHz (Intel Turbo Boost max 4.0 GHz), max. TDP 65 W

Unless a future CPU requires different microcode (typically loaded by the BIOS) things look promising.
