Drive caddy screws & key
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I got a hold of a used ts-639 pro, but it doesn't have any drive caddy screws or the key for the caddies.
Where might I be able to find a) replacement screws with flat heads and b) a key for the caddies?
Thanks.

Hi sjm,
The HDD screws should be easy to get from your local hardware/DIY stores.
The HDD keys should be available from some of the retailers/distributors.
Please check here: http://qnap.com/Wheretobuy.asp

Re: Drive caddy screws & key
Dear Jason,
DIY/Hobby shop? This is certainly not true in the Metric world! Lucky if a computer shop has some spare standard Pan head screws for normal chassis mount. Here what I know:
3.5" HDD: Phillips Flat Head Countersunk 6-32UNC-2B with a max length of .250 inches (1/4")
2.5" HDD: Phillips Flat Head DIN 965 / ISO 7046 M3x5 or M3x6
What are the exact specs of the UNF screws required to install the 3.5" HDD, respective the Metric screws to mount the 2.5" HDD, in the QNAP TS trays as supplied?
Easy to say, just a few (here very special!) UNF screws easily cost a fortune...

Thank you. That's what I need to look for at the hardware store. (I guess we'll see how easy they are to find.)schumaku wrote:3.5" HDD: Phillips Flat Head Countersunk 6-32UNC-2B with a max length of .250 inches (1/4")

I too have lost the screws for my unused drive bays in my second NASschumaku wrote: 3.5" HDD: Phillips Flat Head Countersunk 6-32UNC-2B with a max length of .250 inches (1/4")
I've looked for screws with the above spec but they also state a "degree angle" of the head, usually either 82 or 100 degrees. Does anyone know the spec of the QNAP screws please?
TIA

Re: Drive caddy screws & key
Use the 100° ones - makes the head lower. Hard to measure, but comparing to a 90° paper sheet edge its wider, so 100° must be ok.

Re: Drive caddy screws & key
I bought a set of screws at the exact spec, but they don't fit properly. The screw head is proud of the disk tray so prevents the tray from sliding in to place.
I found it really difficult to source these screws, and got it wrong when I did.
Anyone got a link to a uk supplier? PLEASE!

No I haven't as the accessories site only lists full trays with screws, but I will give it a go. Thanks for the email address.

Would anyone know where to source these screws in Australia? I have a 879pro but none of the caddys have screws in it.

Re: Drive caddy screws & key
A complete set of screws (metric for 2.5" and UNF for 3.5" HDD) are supplied with each NAS from the factory.Tasmik wrote: I have a 879pro but none of the caddys have screws in it.
Get in touch with your reseller or the QNAP distributors for Australia. Convinced they can help.Tasmik wrote:seriously I have to buy a 8 whole caddy systems to get replacement screws..
So it was neither QNAP nor any other community member not paying attention to a $2.5k aud device - figureTasmik wrote:...this is a $2.5k aud device I cant get a few screws.. crazy

Re: Drive caddy screws & key
Finding the 3.5 screw is a challenging one, I have gone to one of the biggest bolts and screws shops to scavenging computer shop bolt left over and only found 1 that can be used on the enclosure. The distributor here has no slightest idea of where to find the screw, might try my luck going to that site but purchasing it require shipping cost over 30 dollars and I am not sure. Anyone got ideas where I might find it cheaper (ship to Indonesia)? Thanks
