Nice... I did not know that page was there! The links on the left had not been updated to include the 509.

Thanks koy!

Oh, great! That thing has all the features I want (especially "Schedule On/Off", "Wake on Lan", LCD display) - I'm just really unhappy that I bought the 409 only 3 weeks ago! :x :(

Qnap - you should really have a "coming soon" section on your front page - I would definitely have waited for the 509 had I known it was in the works.

Qnap has now announced officially its TS-509 (See http://www.qnap.com/PressRelease_detail.asp?pr_id=92).
For my personal use, I'm quite desappointed because I was hesitating between TS-409 and TS-509, but I saw that TS-509 is for small business only and do not have surveillance station :(
Is there forcasted a TS-509 for home user ?

What's the power consumption of the 509 without drives, and given there are actually two fans that I can see from the rear photo, how quiet is the 509 (in dBs)?

It looks a very solid all-round unit. I can't wait to see how much it hits the streets at. The VGA connector is intriguing though. :)

WOW 9999.0€ I was really looking forward to buying one till I saw that I'd need to take out a mortgage for one....LOL  Hope the price is incorrect in the link. Dose anyone know the real price and what date is for release????
The price of 9999.0€ is real a joke compared with Synology DS508 (1200 USD)...

I'm guessing the price is a mistake. I'd expect the new kit to be a similar price to the 409.

anyway does it have fans and is it as quiet as the 409?

Cheers,

2 fans are installed. 1 for the power supply and 1 for the system and harddrives.

Is this correct? I thought that the survailance station application came with it / could be added? If not that is indeed very disapointing. What else is the 509 "missing" ?

I hope that it is in fact feature full, as in, can do everything the other QNAP's can do and more... what's the point in in it lacking areas the other models have? It would make sense to move forward in all areas, and not backward in some.

Anyone able to confirm if the 509 is missing any QNAP features?

Comon Andy, update the countdown!

You guys are going to need some marketing hype, once the end users see the price. ;)

I found a site in the US that has them for $849 ($899 - $50 rebate) with no disks.
Use the forum search feature before posting.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

Nice find!
As you have one in your sig.... does the 509 make much noise and / or use much power??
Five HDD are going to be, say 10 watts each. There is only two fans, one dimm to refresh and cpu, so maybe 90 / 110 watts all up?

I am also disappointed that the surveillance station seems not to be supported on 509 Pro. Any particular reason? The hardware is more capable than on 209 Pro or 409 Pro so this should not be the issue. I understand that 509 is targeted at business users, but in case one needs the surveillance station, will it be made available for install on the 509?

Retailers frequently list a price of "$99999" or whatever before a product is released but the final price is still unknown. They can't exactly list it at $0!

check out comparison chart:
http://www.qnap.com/images/products/com ... n_NAS.html

Its also missing jumbo frames but gained a couple of extras, to me it looks like its more set out for the home user than business :?:

I'm also surprised that their will be no surveillance station, this is one feature I was wanting and I may have to start looking somewhere else, I'll still wait to see what the price is first, Thats gonna be the make or break for me now.

Qnap:- why miss out on some features that the smaller units already have, this unit is much more capable :?:

I feel confused now. I was about to buy the TS-409 because it's the more powerfull NAS for home usage. But they said "wait for TS-509, it is a next generation QNAP which is much more powerfull than TS-409". So I waited, but now we have more CPU but less fuctionnalities :?: This makes no sense.
Concerning surveillance station, the only hope is a firmware update (they told me it should delivered in the next comming monthes), but how to be sure it will really be the case ?
