File Permissions?

Hi All,
I would like to know what the files inside shares should be set for permissions. I am mainly concerned with couchpotato,sickbeard,headphones etc..

I have noticed my collection was in pretty bad shape from building it over the years with regards to permissions. Logitech Squeeze Server couldn't find some things and also my car headunit couldn't either etc.

Changing folders to 777 and files to 666 inside the shares fixes this but i would like to know whats the best permission to use for media files inside protected shares.

777 and 666 or as headphones assigns 755/644?

also once i know the best settings, is there a way to apply these permission across the whole share? all folders 777 and all files 666. I have been using the webfile manager and setting the whole folder and contents to 666 then changing just the folder back to 777 which has been working but will not work for say albums where I have multiply folders inside the first artist folder...
