sytem down! need help

Postby ntenz » Thu Jul 12, 2012 4:47 pm

:?: Hi there,

My TS219P cant boot anymore. I am only able to connect using ssh without any disks attached.

When i access using the browser i get this: The system cannot detect any hard drives. Please install a hard drive.

Problem is that i got data on both my raid1 disks and ofcourse do NOT want to initialize them.

A few days ago i recived a mail regarding disk2

Server Name: TS219P
IP Address: 192.168.0.20
Date/Time: 2012/06/25 22:32:28
Level: Error
[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] Drive 2 failed.

I made a resync and i hope it was done before i booted the server ...

I am able to ping the ip with the disks attached but cant connect using ssh or with the qnap finder. I tried to boot with each disk seperatly attached but same problem. So i guess both disks/boot are corrupted now?

Any idead regarding the proper progress.

Am i able to attach the disks to a windows pc and recover the data. I know windows use ntfs but is there a way?

without disks i can ssh

Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/ram0 32.9M 30.6M 2.3M 93% /
tmpfs 32.0M 32.0k 32.0M 0% /tmp
tmpfs 32.0M 0 32.0M 0% /.eaccelerator.tmp

/var/log/messages is empty
Kind regards,
Daniel

Some drive error status can create issues. If the system reports the disk2 failed - it's most likley true. As you have a RAID1 system, unplug the Disk #2 and then power-up the system. This should bring back the data - but not the redundancy. If this does not work, please let us know.

Rrun a HDD vendor supplied test (most offer bootable DVD, which can be run on "standard" computers - of course, this requires a direct SATA interface, and a disk power connection.

Consider to replace the failed HDD as soon as possible. You need a HDD of the same or larger storage space.

I tried booting with both disks (one at a time) but none of them boots like they should. I am only able to connect with both disk disattached.

I used the following procedure thanks to BillH

NB: Create a backup using Ext2Fsd (if you use a windows machine) first! just in case

I recovered my NAS. I opened an online ticket with QNAP but still no response after 4 days. The NAS was setup as RAID1.
1. Removed drives and booted NAS
2. Once NAS completed boot, I inserted one drive and went through the Quick Config in the web interface.
3. CRITICAL!!! On Step 6 Select Disk Configuration, select Do Not Set Disk Configuration. Although you will get a warning that the drive will be formated, it actually did not.
4. It will go through the setup and reboot (took about 5 minutes until I could get back to web interface.)
5. Login, go to Access Right Mangement, Share Folders and Create a network share. For the path, select Enter Path Manually and in the drop down you should see all of your folders with data intact!

Turns out "initialize" is different from "format."

Before starting, I took out one drive and was able to backup everything to my Windows 7 PC using Ext2Fsd (http://www.ext2fsd.com) to mount the drive read only and Teracopy (codesector.com) to copy files.

Hope this can help someone else.
