Backup before replacing disks

Postby jimbobmcgee » Wed Feb 10, 2010 10:50 am

I am looking to replace the disks in my TS-209 Pro with 2 x 1.5TB or 2 x 2TB disks.
Is it possible backup the existing content to an external USB disk, remove the old disks and restore from the USB disk?

What is the best method for this?

I was thinking of possibly using dd but I don't know what /dev devices I need to backup in order to retain as much as possible. Is it just /dev/md0? Would this include all partial downloads in Qdownload and allow them to continue when I dd back to the new disk array?

I see you got no replies.

I would like to have the same answer to your question, particularly concerning the copying of the qdownload dir with unfinished downloads in it.
I have to replace as soon as possible my HD due to bad blocks, but am in the middle of a download that seems to take forever.
Can I copy the content to an external HD, install another HD in the QNAP, and after initialisation restore the contents of the download folder and resume ?
Will the "fastresume" file take care of that?

Anyone there with a swift answer?
Qnap ?
Many txs,

Found the answer myself.
Had to replace the HD. Copied the content of the Qdownload folder to an external disk.
Afterwards copied all files back.
Activated the download with the original torrent file.
System starts checking the already downloaded parts and continues from there on. Works like a charm.
