Uh, yea David. Although this is specifically about how to recover from a NAS. Not a Windows machine.

I get to the point where I want to execute the photorec_static file and the server returns a permission denied error. I've pored over the setting and think I have everything alright but still get the same error. I'm new to linux so this really **.

I am running everything ssh through putty. Isn't there a better interface out there? Not liking typing code all day long...

Anyone have any ideas what this is about?

Any help would be apriciated.

Hey there. Do you have photorec_static copied on an external USB drive?

I'm in the same situation as the firmware formatted my 1 TB randomly after upgrading to 3.2. QNAP support has been helping me to run TestDisk and it is currently scanning my 1 TB hard drive. R-Linux took four days to scan and image my 1 TB HD. I hope TestDisk will work! I am concerned about the lack of directory structure, making the recovery process painful (although it's better than nothing!). Does SpinRite do a better job?

Have you tried Stellar Phoenix Partition Recovery which is fine to recover deleted files and folders with the original name and size.i think you should try the trial version first if you find your recovered files on preview then go for full download otherwise not.....

How do you use Telnet?

I do this:
telnet NAS1paddr 13131

NAS8D647A login: admin

Password:
sh: pts/0: No such file or directory

I try this:
[~] # cd /share/hda_data/public

result:
-sh: cd: /share/hda_data/public: No such file or directory

What sould I do?

Have you logged in under the admin account and ensure the same account has rights to where photorec is saved?

Hmm, found out that ADMIN didn't have execute access to USBDisk1. So now I can execute Photorec_Static, but I never come to STEP 4 and I never se the picture3.
What I see is flashing text. I don't have a stable text.

Do someone have an idea.

TIA

I have also by mistake deleted important files on my NAS (QNAP 219p). I have followed the steps in your guide above but when I try to execute the file photorec_static I get a message saying "permission denied". I have granted read and write access to admin on the external USB device. Any idea what the problem is?

I read in the thread above that this program may only work on Intel based NAS systems. Is this true?

I would highly appreciate any help out there.

Best regards
Christian

Maybe this can help you about the Permission Denied.
