[Problem] QGet not holding credentials

Postby tizzy » Sun Jul 08, 2012 3:53 pm

Since I upgraded to 3.7.1 Build 20120615 a few weeks ago on my TS219, QGet v2.1.2.246 no longer works properly. It keeps asking for my login details even tho I ask it to remember them. After logging in, it then no longer displays the server and if I try to add a torrent it will re-ask for my login details but doesn't add the torrent. The download web interface still works so I can still download but QGet wont display anything.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled QGet a few times now to no avail, any idea's?

Have you installed QGet with administrator rights? I found that the Explore Folder doesn't work if you haven't done that, so maybe this works in your case as well. There is a more recent version of Qget by the way, see viewtopic.php?f=57&t=60922 .

I uninstalled and reinstalled using admin rights. I've run the appl with admin rights. I installed the new beta. Nothing changed. On starting QGet it sees the server and then requests login crdentials. I check the Remeber password option and login. It appears to login correctly as no messages appear but the server list then goes blank as does the download list. The only way to add torrents and follow progress is thru the web interface

No such issues here, actually using QGet 2.1.5 0702 from here viewtopic.php?f=57&t=60922 on Vista and Windows 7. No probelms storing new added NAS including the password when requesed accordingly.

installed qget on my laptop an it appears to work fine there. What does QGet do or use that might be a problem on one pc and not the next, even on the same network?

I've switched my Kaspersky antivirus off for testing purposes but it changes nothing. Both windows firewall and windows defender are switched off by Kaspersky so they couldn't be the problem. Could it be java settings or such?

Honestly: Not very much. It's a standard application, communicating to the NAS on a TCP port, and storing it's configuration data in the registry, for the application on the local machine, for the configuration on the current user.

When QGet does aparently loosing or not storing the credentials, there must be an issue writing to the registry. The server and credentials storage is placed here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\QNAP\QGet\QGetServer\Svr

I won't ask you about the differences between your two systems - however, the answer to your issue is somewhee in that area - outside of QGet. Messed up or corupted registry, applied whatever registry tuning, security prohibiting updating ie HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ or rbelow, ... a lot of options.

For simplicity, I would suggest to uninstall QGet, and remove all QNAP\QGet references (in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\QNAP\QGet\ as well as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QNAP\QGet\ ) and then re-install the application.

uninstalled, removed registry entries, reinstalled: no change
manually changed registry entries to match laptop settings: no change
did these a couple of times while rebooting in between and varying with Run as Admin: no change

uninstalled, reverted to version 2.0.0.1220: SUCCESS
uninstalled, installed version 2.1.5.0702: blank server list after entering login credentials

uninstalled, reverted to version 2.0.0.1220: SUCCESS

installed version 2.1.5.0702 on LAPTOP: blank server list after entering login credentials
reinstalled version 2.1.5.0702 on LAPTOP using Windows recommended settings: blank server list after entering login credentials
uninstalled, reverted to version 2.0.0.1220: SUCCESS

The problem started sometime after installing 2.1.2.426, so I don't know what changed but there's definitely a problem with the upgrades after 2.0.0.1220. My signature is uptodate and perhaps it can provide some clues?
