QNAP TurboNAS TS-119p+ TORRENT QUESTION

Postby gaskell1066 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 6:41 am

Hello QNAP FORUM

I am looking to purchase a QNAP TS-119p+ and would like to ask a question about torrent downloads. Having purchased a DLINK DNS 320 a few months ago purely for torrent sharing i discovered within 10 minutes how useless the thing was at it would only allow you to have 10 torrents going at once, uploading or downloading - 10 that was it, the box just refused to start anymore than that, part of the firmware apparently    Having looked at the specs of the TS-119 and liking what i see but could any owners of this box on the forum advised me if this suffers from the same problem?? or can you have as many torrents running as you want, any info or guidance would be very much appreciated as i am ready to throw the DLINK out of the window

Somehow all product managers copied - from whoever was first... No, serious: With the QNAP NAS, the max. number of concurrent downloads is limited per NAS model, resp. according to the perfromance. The Limit on the ARM systems is set to 10 actually, too. Mostly, this is done to protect the user of himself - with the idea to ensure the overall NAS (NAT router, Internet connectivity, ...) performance is not badly hurt by the download station.

When you want a more freely configureable BT client, go for the QNAP NAS, and consider to run Transmission. There is an almost plug-and-play ready installable QPKG available -> viewtopic.php?f=221&t=44999#p199651

Weh you intend to join the heavy sharing crew, I suggest you to go for a more powerful multibay NAS with something like a RAID5 or a RAID10.

Regards,
-Kurt.

10 concurrent downloads is fine, the problem with the dlink was it was 10 concurrent anything - uploading and downloading. As soon as you added a 10th file to either download or seed it refuses to start. Can this qnap model handle more than 10 files at once?? Like I said 10 downloads is fine but what I would like to do is leave files on the NAS seeding for a long time after I have downloaded them so I may have 40-50 just sitting there uploading occasionally. Can this NAS do this
