QNAP has dropped support for media players 1000/1000P

The blu ray iso problem is only with a few high capacity blu rays over 45GB, so I could locally store those on my NMP1000Ps. But I remain curious as to what the cause of the problem is as they play perfectly off the internal hard drive of the NMPs. So, is the NAS just not capable of streaming or is the NMP not capable of receiving the higher bit rates? I doubt it's a LAN issue.

As for an HTPC system, I really wanted to avoid a noisy PC in one room and locally replicate all files.

Hmmmmm....
Was actually visiting this sub-Forum because I was considering buying a NMP-1000P, but if QNAP has dropped support for it, I'll look elsewhere...

I had support direct from their tech guys a month ago, so I'm not sure support is dropped, though it may be on the forum.

The NMp1000Ps work well except, they will not play all blu ray ISOs through a network; there is a problem with high capacity blu rays over about 40GB. For instance Kylie Minogue's Aphrodite tour does not play via a network, but it will play if the file is copied through the network onto an internal hard drive.

It's not that support is dropped, but it has very low priorities and therefore may not get new updates or will take long to get them.

If you're new to this, maybe better consider another brand as QNAP is focusing on its main products (storage) and not on media players.

Unfortunately, as far as I'm concerned, Qnap has shot itself in the foot.
My purchase of the NMP-1000p was primarily because I needed to test their support and product quality before recommending and purchasing network storage devices for customers and for myself.
With no response to two E-mails and the very poor quality of the NMP-1000p firmware, there is little to persuade me to buy Qnap, and nothing to persuade me to resell Qnap to my customers - that's a gigantic headache that I can well do without.
As for media players; I've seen forum suggestions that Qnap should drop media players and concentrate on network storage, but there are so many bugs in the networking and file system aspect of the NMP-1000p software, that I've little confidence in their NAS products.

So scratch any sales from me - to date that has cost Qnap £23000 (GBP) (US$34000) - and that was just the first batch. ....

That's probably the most silly post I have read thus far. You bought their mediaplayer to see how they support the NAS line. The mediaplayers have never gotten the attention they needed and have (to me) always looked like a little side-project to see if there was a market there for them.

The main products of QNAP have always been storage.

So a big fail on you and you should have gotten a NAS to test, they offer great support, even if it is YEARS out of warranty.

As it happens, I did order three Qnap (supposed) business grade NAS devices of various models - since I really did want to like and recommend their products. However, all three exibited problems - ranging from a power supply that caught fire, to drive connectors that were not attached. There were also numerous bugs in the file system, including very basic connection/authentication issues - which is why I stated that Qnap cannot even do that properly.
If one has to recommend another company's products, and will be the prime source of support, one need to be sure that the original manufacturer will back you up. Neither with the NMP nor the NAS devices do we receive that support from Qnap. The three NAS devices were returned as serious being of merchantable quality.
And as for the "most silly post", ... well, we are all entitled to our own opinion and you can guess mine!

Any chance of a new firmware to stop the freezing and hanging of the NMP-1000P playing mpeg2 files over a network?
