QNAP NMP-1000 Network Multimedia Player related questions

hi,

I have a qnap nmp100... i have activated the ddns service and it works (because I see the updated ip adress on dyndns.org), but the problem is that's my private adress (192.168.x.X) and not my provider adress... can you help me ?

Hi!

I guess that your NMP-1000 is behind a router/gateway and you want it do be accessible from the internet, right?

If this is the case you should not activate the ddns-service in the NMP-1000 since it will cause it to send the local ip-adress only. Look for the simular feature in your router/gateway and activate it in this device instead. When you have done this you have to open and forward the appropriate ports in your router/gateway.

I have a question: 2 nmp1000 can connect vía Internet without a PC?
You know nmp- nmp not nmp-PC-nmp

Yes its possebly but i´m rather sure the ISP has closed the ports you need to use smb/nsf over the internet.
Your best bet is to set up a VPN (Virtual Privat Network) so both devices is located on "the same" network.

NMP<-->VPN<---InterNet--->VPN<-->NMP

And for very good reason. Using it over the internet without protection of a strong vpn-solution would be crazy.
