Hi,

I've just invested in an HTC Hero which runs Android. I've got a nice app called AndFTP which lets me upload/download to my QNAP, but I was wondering if anyone can advise on if it's possible for me to stream music / video to my phone from my QNAP?

Any advice much appreciated :)

Hi,
Yes,it is possible for me to stream music / video to your phone. For that you have to installed some application for i-phone.
I think you should go with another application that should be built-in.Use Handbrake on PC to convert movies for it using similar settings to iPhone.
Thanks.

Amdroid or Lullaby works for music if you have Ampache installed on your QNAP.

AllShare is another app.

I´ve got it standard with my Samsung Galaxy S.

Unfortunately it works still slighty bugy with my Qnap 459 & Twonkey.

It sees all videos, Music and Picture.

Pictures are only very low res (thumbs)
Videos need to be the right format
Music takes quite long toi load with over 30k of songs

If there is anything better please post

Have you tried Twonky from the Andoid market?
It is advertised as Twonky Server but also has a client which can stream music / videos from your NAS if you have Twonky Server enabled.

I have HTC Desire, and it works well.

well I actually also got HTC Desire and QNAP 219P
And I cannot force my phone stream movies from server.
I tried Andromote - it starts copying movies to my flash card (and it is 1. slow through wifi and 2. useless because there is no place %))
I tried Qmobile - it sees my qnap, three folders pics music and video, but pics and music are populated while video is empty.
can it be because of having too many folders and files in root video directory?

I am a little tired of Linux and Android, Windows does everything much better and faster, without troubles...

Use android DAAP client, your nas already runs the itunes server (also known as mt-daapd). If you want to listen from outside your LAN, just remember to port forward 3689 to your qnap. Simple!

http://code.google.com/p/daap-client/ or search for daap media player in android market.

Check the description of the DAAP Media Player in the Android Market...less typing required then asking in a forum:
DAAP Media Player allows you to play music from a DAAP share such as iTunes (pre 7), mt-daapd (firefly), Rhythmbox, NAS (FreeNAS), and QNAP servers. ...

I was able to get my phone stream videos from my QNAP using UPnP app (appbrain) to browse through the Twonky server and VPlayer (appbrain) to stream the video.

Works well, but only on a local network. Streaming it on 3G is the next step.

When you need stream media on 3g, install and run openvpn on qnap, install openvpn in your android phone and connect to qnap.

Now work streaming media on 3g internet.

I successfully connected my QNAP Twonky with Android Twonky client. On Android I can see all the files etc but when trying to play them it said cannot play the item.
Anyone else have this problem?

For now I've set the server to rescan content. Hopefully it would fix this issue.

Root your phone, install a kernel that support cifs.ko, install cifs manager and astro. Using this method, I can even stream 720p videos through wifi to my galaxy s.
