QGetMobile: Manage downloads on iOS/Android/WinPhone7/Nokia

Post by fkm »

Hi,

I've developped a mobile application able to connect to your QNAP NAS and manage your downloads. It is called "QGetMobile" and is available on several platforms:

- For iPhone, on the AppStore:
http://itunes.apple.com/app/qgetmobile/id367241871?mt=8

- For iPad, on the AppStore:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/qgetmobi ... 83150?mt=8

- For Android 1.6 and after, on the Android Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... QGetMobile

- For Windows Phone 7, on the MarketPlace:
http://windowsphone.com/s?appid=287058c ... 8f44815213

- For Windows Mobile 6.x, on my website (http://dev.patey.net)

- For Symbian Series 60 5th edition (touchscreen), on the OVI Store:
http://store.ovi.com/content/46126

A more detailed description here:

QGetMobile allows you to connect to your NAS and manage your downloads. You will be able to add or remove files, but also check the speed or pause downloads.

The included web browser will help you choose the file you wish to download with a single touch, and the smart search engine will allow you to look for any kind of file. New search engines can be added dynamically, so you will never miss your good old finder. Mininova is included by default!

Morever, the built-in RSS reader helps you keep track of your software updates. You will be able to add new RSS feeds to QGetMobile and be notified of new files to download.

Afraid to open your Download Station access to the Internet? QGetMobile handles both HTTP and HTTPS, so it is completely secure!

A complete description is available on my website as well as other screen captures:

Any comments are welcome !

Thanks,
Jerome

I think that's a fantastic idea. I would be willing to cooperate in your development needs. The Android platform has renewed my interest in the mobile sector. I have a Motorola Droid and a QNAP.

Hi,

Thanks for your interest :)

Can you send me a mail (through my website), so that I can keep your proposition in a corner of my head for when I have a beta version to try out ? That would be nice to have beta testers before publishing it officially !

Thanks,
Jerome

i just have a question. This tool has nothing to do with "QMobile for iPhone & iPod Touch" announced by QNAPJames?
If it is intended only for Downloads i would also be interesed. What type of access do you need on the NAS?

Greets
Hi,

Yes, QGetMobile is only for managing downloads. On the NAS, I would (well, the app would) need an access to the download station. That is, open the port 8080 (or any redirection) to the exterior world. Otherwise, it will work only in local.

You can find more information on my website. It will probably change a little bit when I will really submit the app, but it should stay really close to SynoLoad.

Jerome

You managed to use QMobile without the 3.3.0 ? How did you do that ?

Have been using the Winmo version for couple of days now. No issues at all. Pretty impressed with the app. Am on HTC HD2 (Leo), running the latest Winmo 6.5 Touch Xtreme custom ROM.
The only suggestion i can think of is to change the colour scheme - the current scheme looks rather dull! :) or let users choose from couple of light/ dark skins.
There is a mention in the app that your site, dev.patey.net, has examples for setting up other torrent sites than mininova. however, could not find this page. Could you please tell me how, for example, can one go about adding piratebay to the search list? Got a bit stumped by the variables that need to be added.

Secondly, would love to test the android version. have the nexus one, motorola milestone (both on android 2.1) and an archos 5IT (on android 1.6). at least i can test your current iteration on the archos. plus have a jailbroken iphone 3g... do you have any plans of putting this up on cydia, too?

Hi,

Thanks for your comments :)

I won't change the color scheme for now. I'm not a designer at all, so it's difficult for me to make something "pretty"... and I think the current design isn't that bad so it will stay like this, at least for now.

For the searchers, you can add the Pirate Bay searcher by specifying: http://dev.patey.net/synoload/tpb in the "Add from URL" part in the settings. Searchers should be compatible with SynoLoad, so you can take them from the SynoLoad page. I haven't tried them all with QGetMobile, and when I'll do, I'll add them to the QGetMobile page.

For the Android version, sorry, you will have to wait for my bugs to be fixed... I don't think it's a good idea to try a version which is known to have issues :)

And finally, I won't put it on Cydia, it will be in the AppStore (at least if I'm accepted one day !), and it will be free.

Regards,
Jerome

thanks for the response.
will keep a lookout for the iphone and android versions, too. what i like about this app is that it is so effortless to use.
just one thing - wondering if you plan to introduce sorting options. currently, the latest download ends up at the bottom of the Finished list, if you have lots of downloads listed ( like i do - over 200), you need to flick all the way down to see it. maybe the latest entries could be on top, instead? or maybe the user can choose how to sort - chronologically (latest/ oldest on top) or alphabetically...

Hi,

I display the items the way they are sent by the QNAP server, so I don't choose the order. I think adding buttons to choose the way they are ordered would make the application UI even more complex than it is right now. I will see what I can do in the settings.

Jason told me that the download share name has changed between old/new models... For now, it's hardcoded "/Download" in my application, as the default value. Did you have any issue with that ?

Apparently:
TS-109/209/409/509/809/239/439/639: Qdownload
TS-259/459/659/859/559/239 Pro II/439 Pro II: Download

Thanks,
Jerome

the download folder on my 209 pro II is Qdownload. But that has not posed any issues - your app works just fine. interesting - if you have hardcoded it to "Download", why does it work fine with "Qdownload"?
