Direct iSCSI connection to server from QNAP???

Postby raid5 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 3:49 am

Is it possible to setup a direct connection from the QNAP directly to a server with a dual NIC using iSCSI (and not have to go through a switch)? Thanks.

Thanks for confirming. I ask because I setup a direct connection using an iSCSI taget/lun and connected via a Windows 08 server iSCSI initiator.

It connected fine but when I go to disk manager is shows the drive as offline and unable to connect due to a local policy.

Also, when I try to connect to the web interface it brings up part of the login page and times out. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

How are your network ports configured? Trunking in use?

If it shows in Disk Manager on your server, and it's not just showing a past connection (click Action > Rescan disk in Disk Manager) then your iSCSI session is active.

There's nothing more you need to do re the connection between the NAS and the server.

The issue you are having is precisely what you already typed: an issue with the *local* policy. i.e. your server. If you can't initialise the disk on the server (tell us the exact error) then speak to your system administrator. If you *are* your system administrator, get to work!

You'll need to manually setup your routing etc, as there is no router between them, but the following QNAP Tutorial should help with the rest.
