How to map a LUN as virtual disk on QNAP

Postby hazymat » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:36 am

I have 2TB of NTFS data on an external drive, which I want to transfer TO the QNAP.

More specifically I would like to transfer it to an iSCSI LUN (mapped to a target) on the QNAP.

I know I could use a server to connect to the iSCSI target, then pull the files out over the fileshare that QNAP automatically set up when I connected my external drive to the SATA port on the back. But that's ridiculous.

So I have SSH'd into the QNAP and found the mount location of the external drive and checked the data.

Now I just need to mount the LUN as a virtual disk within the QNAP itself, so I can perform the file copy.

How do I do that, please?

This article helpfully tells me it's possible, but helpfully omits the critical point of *how* to mount the LUN as a virtual disk:

Thanks so much. This has reduced my 4 day ETA on the data triage to about 24 hours :)
