If you are not going to use aid en it should not be an issue. I believe your device also supports online raid expansion if ypu wanted to go that route too

Hi Ryssen,
You can add the 2nd new HDD as a new single disk and then setup new shares on it for data storage or file sharing (if you do not want to upgrade to RAID 1).

JBOD ties the two disks together so it appears to be one data volume with the size of the two disks combined.

Single disk is self explanatory. Two single disks will give you two separate volumes of data.

It's also described in the documentation.

No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

speed (writing) will take a hit in raid 1 because the information has to be written in both discs. what raid 1 gives you is availability meaning that if one this goes down, you can still access your data. but raid 1 is not a substitute for a good backup strategy.

I have a 219+ too and bought a second drive today.

Will I lose data on the first hard drive if I set the system up as a RAID 0 or single hard drive?

Yes all data will eraise when creating a RAID.So it´s best to make a backup of the data you want to keep.
