TS-469 Pro and WD RED 6TB compatibility

Post by wearwolf »

Hie guys

Abit of a noob on the forum here. So i was looking to upgrade my TS-469 Pro. Basically ; i got 2x 3TB's that're running outta space and another 4TB's that are at 75% capacity. 'Lo and behold; 6-8TB HDD's have finally arrived and i can upgrade the storage without getting a new NAS. Unfortunately due to some of my bad experiences with Seagate and lack of 6-8TB availability so far; I stuck to WD on my corner of the world (Malaysia). If you're asking; the Prices are about MYR 915 / USD $ 263 / EURO 215 for a 6TB where i am.

So here i do my due diligence by checking the QNAP.com site to confirm compatibility with 6TB (correct as at 20/Dec/2014 06:30 UTC+0)
(http://www.qnap.com/i/useng/product_x_ ... I=21&hf=0), My hopes are crushed when all I see are SEAGATE ENTERPRISE drives are the only ones compatible.

So i do my ususal GOOGLE and BING search and here's something that i find from an EASY-TECS company in Germany(?)
http://www.easy-tecs.de/Netzwerkspeiche ... -24-7.html

OK granted the second link is for a TS-469 Rack mounted; but then again they should be using the same board/chipset/firmware to use those kinda hard drives right? Or am i wrong?

Anyways my question is; IS the 6TB WD RED Compatible with the TS-469 Pro or not? If yes; then maybe there's a mistake/delay in QNAP updating the compatibility list; or is there's a caveat in using drives more than 4TB in a TS-469 Pro?

I've attached screenshots just in case you guys cant find the pages that i've linked above. Appreciate if you guys can confirm/deny the use of 6TB WD Reds. Now comes the damn problem of what todo with 2x 4TB and 2x 3TB lying around...

you might just find QNAP have yet to test the WD 6TB drives with this device or not just updated that model. best to raise a ticket with them and find out, unless another 469 Pro user here can confirm they are working correctly with the
