Upgrading Hard Disks in 419P

Post by McHaggis69 »

Hi,

before I do anything I will regret, can someone advise the procedure for upgrading 1 or more disks in my NAS?

I have the TS-419P with latest firmware.
It has the maximum number of 4 drives currently installed. Each is 1.5Tb and is setup in a RAID5 array.

I can see I will get low on space in the next few months so thinking of upgrading one or more drives...
Can I simply take one drive out at a time (hot) and replace with a new drive and wait till the disk system rebuilds, then repeat? Obviously I won't want to lose any existing data on the NAS.

Because your using RAID5, to expand ,you will need to replace each drive with a larger one, just adding a couple will not suffice.

please read the Online RAID Capacity Expansion & RAID Level Migration tutorial here: http://www.qnap.com/i/in/trade_teach/co ... one&cid=40
