Hi all,
i just bought a TS-453 pro with 2 WD Red 6TB drives, i installed the drives and turned the nas on. You can hear the WD's spin up then they start making some noise, hard to explain the noise they make best i can its a bit of a rattling sound.
Then starting the initial setup of the qnap the web interface shows there are no disks found. i checked both drives in the qnap they were properly inserted, but now the units LCD also shows that there are no drives detected.
I updated the firmware on the qnap to 4.1.3 (2010408) using qfinder and retried. However this had the same result.
I also tried with 1 drive but still no luck, i think it would be a real coincedence if both of these new drives were broken on arrival.
Heres a youtube video made this so you can hear the noise i was describing it goes on for a while then they spin down and no disks found is displayed on the LCD
Has anyone got an idea what is going on?
thanks in advance

Re: TS-453 WD Red 6TB not found
what i did, in the past:
shutdown NAS
remove all HD's
switch NAS on, and update to latest firmware .
reboot, and shutdown NAS
insert 1 drive and switch NAS on. Is the drive detected?
if so, allow the nas to format the drive. after this
shutdown the nas, and insert the 2nd drive
Now the qnap should regignize the 2nd drive and shows both drives.
proceed with the configuration of the drives as you want

Re: TS-453 WD Red 6TB not found
thanks for the quick reply
My nas is already on the latest firmware 4.1.3 (20150408)
I tried what you suggested using 1 drive to boot the Qnap, but it has the same effect.
i tried this with both of the WD Red 6TD drives.

Power-down, unplug the HDD (just slide-out some centimetres), power-up the NAS. Use Qfinder to discover and open the access the NAS Web UI. admin / admin in case you are asked. Plug the HDD when indicated.

Same effect, its starting to look like the drives are DOA i have been searching about but it seems like im the only unlucky person encountering this issue
Re: TS-453 WD Red 6TB not found
you sure both drives are DOA?
could you put them into an USB station?
