Inateck USB 3.0 SATA Adapter not recognized on front USB port

Post by moehrenfeld »

Hello,

I'm using an Inateck USB 3.0 SATA Adapter to temporarily attach HDDs to the TS-453mini. For convenience I tried to attach the adapter to the front USB port (which is set to "normal" mode, not quick copy). Still the HDD is not recognized. As soon as I attach the adapter to one of the USB ports in the back the drive is recognized.

When attaching to the front port the following error is shown in dmesg:

Code: Select all

[870903.370404] hub 2-1:1.0: config error on port 2
[870904.482545] hub 2-1:1.0: Cannot enable port 2. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[870904.502234] hub 2-1:1.0: config error on port 2
Any idea if that is normal? Is the front USB port somehow special?

Regards

Sebastian

Hallo Sebastian,

Welcome to the QNAP NAS Community Forum!

This does not matter - the control does just enable the OTC (one touch copy) button.

Should't...

No.

Hard to guess what does go wrong.

Please get in touch with QNAP Customer Service - file a ticket on https://helpdesk.qnap.com/ (registration is required).

For completeness - please provide firmware version and build number.

TIA,
-Kurt.

TS-251 here, current stable firmware version 4.3.3.0299 Build 20170901

Got my Inateck enclosure today and it doesn't work with either front or back USB3 ports. Nothing shows up in dmesg or lsusb.
Interestingly, it also isn't possible to pass the device through to the Windows 10 guest in VirtualizationStation3.

As soon as I plug it into one of the USB2 ports, it shows up as 174c:55aa / ASMT1153e and I can either use it directly in the NAS or in the guest machine, albeit with USB2 performance.

Sebastian, did you have problems with the front port alone?
Kurt, same advice for me, right?

Reply to self: finally got around to asking tech support.
Answer: not supported, but they offered to open a feature request (no promises) for a future release.
