[Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
I suspect there is a type fault on the power supply of some QNAP untis (e.g. TS-209P). I find that there are quite a number of power supply defects reported in this forum.
Just now, this is my 2nd time the supply of my TS-209P fails. The same symtoms: 1) HDD was prompted failure, 2) Not able to reboot, 3) can boot with HDDs removed - of course with no HDDs installed message, 4) back to normal when I replaced with another power supply (using the one for my TS-239 PRO).
QNAP please advise what should I do as I cannot afford to replace the supply of that frequency - the first one is 20 months old and the 2nd is 2 months old. Is there anything wrong with the montherboard please?
PS - the original supply came with the TS-209P is with the following marks:
DVE Switching Adapter
Model: DSA-60W-12 1 12060
Country of Origin: Made in China

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
Same here.
Two days ago we had a power outage for 2 seconds. When the outage happened one NAS was off and one was running. When I tried to start up the two TS-209P's then were clicking faintly from inside the case (≈3 ticks a second). Tried the NAS w/o HDD – they beeped and started up correctly. With the HDD's back in place, same ticking sound when I click the power button.
Age of devices: 2 years and 2 months
My power supplies:
DVE Switching adapter
DSA-60W-12 1 12060
+12V 5.0A

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
I have the same problem.
The unit was on (lights on on front of my QNAP ts-109).
Could not connect from web/qget/shared drive.
Shut down the unit and when i try to startup again, it wont.
Just small ticking noise coming from it.
When I remove the HDD, the unit will startup.
Please advice.

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
Can you also specify the model of the power supply unit? It helps QNAP identify the bad manufacturer. It is ridiculous to have the NAS high availability but a weak power supply.

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
My PA model: DSA-60W-12, looks like the same one as yours.
What replacement PA you guys got? I have tried several (all of them are laptop PA). All are working with HDD plugged in NAS but none are working with HDD plugged.
Any suggestion?

That further supports my type fault suspicion.leonardoxiao wrote:My PA model: DSA-60W-12, looks like the same one as yours.

Presumably you meant working with HDD unplugged and not working when HDD plugged.
You have to verify there is sufficient output power (DC 12V, 5A) from the PA. Normal laptop PAs that with same voltage are with less output current (be aware there are notebook voltage higher than 12V that may damage your NAS!). You can easily get a compatible one by specifying the output requirement in any electrical spare parts shop but be aware to find a good quality one. My replacement worked for only 2 months. The street price should be around US$15.
In fact, I tried to obtain another replacement from the Hong Kong QNAP distributor but they asked a price of US$30 which is unreasonably much higher that a standard switching power supply with the same output power. In particular, when you compare the total cost of the entire unit. I am now dealing with the QNAP headquarters about this high price spare part.

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
The PSU on my TS109 has also just gone. The serial on mine is DSA-0421S-12.
It's a DVE switching adapter, output +12v/3a
Mine was bought in September 2007, btw.

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
I have the exact same problem as described above by all. Went out and bought a new hard drive thinking it was that! Nope, hard drive works great in other computers. The TS-109 just doen't have the current to get the hard drives up to speed.
Age of TS-109: 2 years and 1 Day!
Power supply:
DVE
DSA-0421S-12
+12V 3.0A
Is QNAP going to do anything about this or at least offer us a more relable power supply that we can buy?

Yes, if anyone can point us to a good cheap replacement in the UK it would be very handy.
It would be good if QNap took the matter on board and helped to arrange a reasonably priced compatible replacement PSU's.

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
I think I was one of the first to report my PS going out on my 209P. The warranty is 24 month so contact QNAP and have them send you a new one.
I do think they have a problem here and need to do a recall or at least extend the warranty on the PS another year.

My 209P only got 18 months warranty in Hong Kong? Why was that?

Re: [Power Supply Problem] QNAP Units
For those in the US, I found a replacement power supply designed for LCD monitors. It is a 12V 6A power supply for $15 at newegg.com. I plugged it in (with the HD installed) and my TS-109 fired right without a hicup.

In Hong Kong, Qnap only provide 18 months warrantly >> too bad isn't it compare with 24 months in other countries...
my TS-209 Pro was not working after 20 months, tried turn back on even with or without HDD (it was scared )
it was found the power supply was dead after borrow a power supply from friend of mine
finally bought a 3rd party power supply with the same AC input / output and my world is back on track.
look for a spare power supply from time to time in case if .... maybe ...
