Thanks a lot for this suggestion. I was about to order a DDR2 SODIMM based on earlier reports. I have a TS-459 PRO+ from 2010, and when I opened it up it had a DDR3 SODIMM inside. Definitely check your QNAP before ordering.bulletdodger wrote: I also have a TS-459Pro+ that I recently purchased in March 2012 with a manufacture date of January 2012 (QNAP support told me this from the serial number). I just upgraded the RAM using the Kingston KVR1333D3S8S9/2G SODIMM and the system is up and running perfectly. At first I had purchased a KVR800D2S5/2G as per "Rapid-eraser" but when I opened up the box, it had a DDR3 SODIMM in there so I exchanged it. Before buying anything to upgrade, I would open up the box and take out the existing module to determine which one is suitable for your system.

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Hi all!
Reading through the thread provided me with enough baseline input to give this a try myself.
I just finalized upgrading my default memory of 1GB DDR3 to 2GB.
I have a TS-459 Pro+ and it was equipped with a single 1GB SODIMM DDR3.
So, i ordered and installed Crucial 2GB 204 PIN DDR3 SODIMM 1333 Mhz CL9.
I picked it up via the following link...

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
for posterity and google: I just upgraded my TS459U-RP+ (rackmountable 1U model) to 2GB with a DDR2 SODIMM.
Brand: Corsair
Type: VS4GSDSKIT800D2
(this is a 2x2GB kit, I used one 2GB SODIMM to replace the original Adata 1GB SU2S800B1G6-B)
My unit got stuck on "all drive leds red" aka "stuck at the first stages of booting", but after reseating the SODIMM (several times. Persistence pays off!) it finally booted up, and now shows 2GB.

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
I have just upgraded from the standard 1gb to 3gb using
Kingston KVR1333D3S8S9/2G 2GB DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz Memory 1.5v CL9 SODIMM
(KVR1333D3S8S9/2G)
Searching the Internet for the model number did turn up a lot of sites reporting to be this model but it was actually something different.
This is where I purchased it from and it was the correct model on the DIMM - If you are in the UK:

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Upgraded my TS-259 Pro + with 2 Gig DDR2 Memory.
NT2GT64U8HD0BN-AD made by Nanya and came from older Dell Laptop.
One thing that immediate jumps out is very little if any usage of a swap file, if anything it will use less power and produce less heat.
Manufacturer Nanya
Manufacturer Part # NT2GT64U8HD0BN-AD
Memory Type SODIMM
Capacity 2GB
Pins 200 Pin
Bus Type PC-6400
Error Correction Non-ECC
Cycle Time 5ns
Cas CL6
Data Transfer Rate 800Mhz
Memory Clock 200Mhz
Rank Rank 2
Voltage 1.8V

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Sorry for bringing up this old thread, but there are a lot of mixed reports here.
I have a TS-259 Pro+ and according to the QNAP website, it has 1GB RAM, but no mention of DDR type.
Some say they upgraded theirs with DDR3 RAM: KVR1333D3S8S9/2G
And just last post says they upgraded it with DDR2 RAM of some wierd brand.
So did QNAP change DDR type at one point on the TS-259 Pro+ ?
Or are some people here thinking they have a Pro+ but have a something-else?
Halp please.

Check your own NAS please.Zigma wrote:I have a TS-259 Pro+ and according to the QNAP website, it has 1GB RAM, but no mention of DDR type.
1. CPU type ... example taken on a TS-459 Pro II, so your TS-259 Pro+ can be different:
# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep model
model : 28
model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz
model : 28
model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz
model : 28
model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz
model : 28
model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz
Anyway, I guess the TS-x59 Pro+ came with a Intel Atom D525 clocked at 1.8 GHz, and supporting DDR3 800 (SODIMM only); DDR2 667/800 as per Intel ARK.
This would explain why users have success with both DDR3 and DDR2 modules.
2. Inspect the currently installed SO-DIMM module physically.

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Looks like my TS-259 Pro+ is the same CPU as yours:
[~] # cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep model
model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz
I just had no idea that the QNAP motherboard could support both DDR2 and DDR3 SODIMMs.
I will probably take it apart and have a look, just to be sure.

Shutdown and remove the HDD (mark per slot!) - the SO-DIMM must be reachable through the HDD tray slots.

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Finally got around to check
My Qnap TS-259 Pro+ from very long ago has 1GB DDR2-800 module.
So I will upgrade it to a Kingston KVR800 2G module soon

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Just an update: I got a 2GB module from an old laptop and installed it without any issues at all. And it was a module that was only 667MHz instead of 800MHz.
It booted and shows 2GB RAM.
I use it to run QMineCraft and the RAM upgrade made it run 100x better. No hickups or any lag and I can now run a skyblock plugin that generates islands without the server crashing.

Re: TS-459 Pro RAM upgrade to 2GB
Hi
I have a 259 Pro+, and want to upgrade the memory.
Unfortunately I cant work out how to get it open?
I've taken the screws off the back and the bottom but the case doesn't seem to want to slide off (I took the hard drives out the nas as well)?
Am i doing something dumb?

Nope there is only 3 screws at the back. one at the top, and one on each side. the top/sides the slide backwards. Put a thin screw driver in between the back and the top section and twist the screwdriver so the the flat blade turns and helps move the casing backwards away from the main body.
