Re: Seagate ST2000DL003?
I'm reporting the same issue with my brand new QNAP 419P+ having four Seagate ST2000DL003 drives, firmware 3.4.3 Build 0520T.
On first boot, only two of the disks were detected.
Retrying, all four were seen. After building a RAID5 array, everything went smoothly until the 3rd or 4th reboot. Disk 2 was not detected and the rebuild took just over 10 hours.
Now I'm reluctant to power off the NAS.
David.

Re: Seagate ST2000DL003?
Happy to report continued stability in my 459+....I have four running in raid 5 for the last six months...maybe 4-5 reboots is all in that time....no errors or disk dropouts. Although it's not the most demanding environment...home media server and tower backup.....

Hi Folk,
Finally, we have one firmware which has passed the reboot test. We set up some test units of TS-412 and reboot them over 200 times without HDD dropped issue occurred. The solution will be included on 3.4.4, which will be released in next week.

That is good news, and do you expect it to help stop the case of one of my Hitachi 5K3000s getting dropped off the RAID but passing SMART and bad sector scan tests?QNAPAlex wrote:Hi Folk,

Hi QNAPALex,
That's good news - can you confirm that will be for the 219+ series as well?
Thanks,
Matt

I just assumed it was fixed for all the ARM versions, but confirmation would be nicethompsonson wrote:Hi QNAPALex,

Re: Seagate ST2000DL003?
My TS-412 with four ST2000DL003's just arrived.
Would you recommend waiting for the new firmware before putting it all together and setting up RAID 5?
Or should I commence setting up RAID 5 and upgrade the firmware when it becomes available?
Thanks!
d.

I can't see a problem setting it up. Be aware you may have dropped disks on power-up/reboot however.dtbaker wrote:My TS-412 with four ST2000DL003's just arrived.

If you go ahead and setup with RAID 5 make sure to enable bitmaps when everything is up to minimize rebuild time if/when you have a dropped disk.
I've been running with the current firmware and the disks for over a month now.

Does this also include the issues some users experienced with the Samsung HD204UI?
TIA,

Re: Seagate ST2000DL003?
And what about the Hitachi disks also being in a not recommended status at the moment???
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!
A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.
All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!
