Installed v3.4.3 on my TS-410. Installation was problem free but have mounting volumes by AFP seemed to take forever on current release Mac OS X 10.6.7! Prior to the update (v3.4.2), mounting a QNAP volume via AFP took the blink of an eye.

Is there some optimisation issue here? This is quite inconvenient and has caused time outs when using TimeMachine backups.

Any explanations or quick fix before the next firmware release? Thanks.
QNAP TS410 -> (8 years) -> TS431X (Plastic casing?) :-0

Suspect the current release is also picking up the highest level uams - with dhx2 (mandatory for 10.7) the CPU load is much higher, which can make the processing for the connection slower, especially when it comes to the 800 MHz ARM NAS models.

This is the typical reason, why the NAS makers had not added the dhx2 uams before.

Sorry for cross-posting - please don't fill-up each and every AFP thread you find with this issue.

Using which NAS model and firmware version?

In my understanding 11A459e is the Mac OS 10.7 Lion Developer Preview 3, which makes DHX2 mandatory by default - and it's available since v3.4.3 firmware. Small draw-back: It takes very long to authenticate (create the AFP session), especially to low-CPU-powered NAS.

QNAP-119Pro (3.4.3 Build 0520T). Lion: Preview 3

I booted from 'Recovery HD' of Lion and made several backups/restores from/to dmg images that are on my NAS. It works but yes it takes some time longer to authenticate.

I don't use Time Machine but I was curious and made a test but without succeeding.

As expected...this version does include the DHX2 support for AFP...

No problems here - but to the much more perfromant Intel based models. Appears TM does not manage to connect the AFP share in time when served by the slower processors.

With developer 4 it takes forever to connect to a ts-210, once connected that all works fine. I managed to restore from time capsule but it will not connect and backup to it no matter what!

Any news on a fix ?

I have the same error message for TimeMachine Backups, see attached screenshot. Any solution available?

Can you connect AFP shares? Already on v3.4.3?

Yup that’s the exact same error I get, I can't connect even to view and the error you show is the one I get when trying to backup.

The really off thing is that it restored all my apps and user accounts form time machine backup when I installed Lion...

Maybe that was just a fluke but I'm glad it did!

Yes, I am on the latest firmware. Connecting through AFP to the shares works fine. Any suggestions?

Just to be clear, I too can connect to shares. Just not time machine.

I started a new topic in the Backup and restore section about the TimeMachine backup problem as I'm not sure it's related to the AFP connection.
