No, no news. The manufacturer itself still does not recommend or support those disks for any RAID/NAS use:
WD Caviar Green Hard Drives are not recommended for and are not warranted for use in RAID environments utilizing Enterprise HBAs and/or expanders and in multi-bay chassis, as they are not designed for, nor tested in, these specific types of RAID applications.

Other WD Green disks have a terrible track record as you can see in almost endless threads of complaints here in the forum. You have now been warned!

This is the Qnap disk compatibility list.

No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

hi, some news here?
I have a 419PII and i NEED to buy disk.
Compatibility list is full of hdd hitachi not easy to find. Here in Italy I can find easily just Segate adn WD model of hdd. most in black list of qnap. Then?
The WD red are also non easy to find and sure more expensive. There are new models, so nobody knows if they will trouble after some time... so maybe i spend more money and have problem the same...

No WD desktop drives - this is why WD has created the WD Red Series.

Some ideas on where to get tem in Italy Rivenditori al dettaglio/Online E-tailers - I know Next Hard&Soft and Bechtle - all certaily offer WD Red.

Probably better to check woth http://www.qnapclub.it/ for possible sources.
