BT Homehub/port forwarding

Hi guys,

I have done a bit of searching on the forum and have seen this mentioned a couple of times, but with no real resolution.

I have BT's Homehub 2a and am having real difficulties in setting up port forwarding. Well, the actual setting up is not the problem. I have manually set which ports to forward to the Nas (TS410). I had to forward to the IP as the HH does not actually show the NAS in the network map. When I am on my LAN, whether wirelessly or not, dont have any issues in accessing the NAS, but it's the remote functionality which I cant seem to get right.

I ran the network diagnostics and:

------ UPnP Diagnostics ------
List of UPNP devices found on the network :
desc: http://192.168.1.254:2555/upnp/UPnP_BTh ... 5/desc.xml
st: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:InternetGatewayDevice:1

Found valid IGD : http://192.168.1.254:2555/upnp/UPnP_BTh ... PConn1.ctl
Local LAN ip address : 192.168.1.82
Connection Type : IP_Routed
Status : Connected, uptime=12444s, LastConnectionError : ERROR_NONE
Time started : Sun Apr 15 07:32:32 2012
MaxBitRateDown : 14335560 bps MaxBitRateUp 1163861 bps
ExternalIPAddress = xx.xxx.xxx.xxx (*edit: manually removed this for my security concerns)
Bytes: Sent: 20242209 Recv: 62855453
Packets: Sent: 81698 Recv: 76120

------ NAT PMP Diagnostics ------
initnatpmp() returned 0 (SUCCESS)
using gateway : 192.168.1.254
sendpublicaddressrequest returned 2 (SUCCESS)
readnatpmpresponseorretry returned -7 (FAILED)

Any ideas?

I am beginning to think the Home hub is not compatible....

thank you in advance!

QNAP added some enhancements on the Auto Router Configuration in the newer versions, consider to update to the latest firmware available, as of writing this is v3.6.1.

If this does not make the BT Homehub operational with the UPnP port frowarding config, you still have the option to do a manual port forwarding.

Unless I'm wrong, this was discussed several times in the forum already. For specific issues with the BT Homehub. better check with forums focussed to the UK market, to the BT market, ... or www.portforward.com (deny any requests to buy or download software).

thanks shumaku

I've been holding off doing the upgrade as I dont have the facility to do a full back up of everything before upgrading as recommended.
I am relatively new to all of this, as you can probably tell. Is it completely necessary to back up before upgrading?

Will taking an iso image work instead of full back up?

Thanks by the way, for your response.!

Have never lost a NAS or a storage volume on a NAS with the firmware update. Of course - having a backup available is in general strongly advised Things can and will go wrong, see Murphy's Law.

Configure the port formward manually - http://www.filesaveas.com/bthomehub_portforwarding.html loogs very complete for the BT Home Hub.
