Hitachi Travelstar Mobile SATA Drives

Postby qnasnew123 » Wed Aug 08, 2012 3:02 am

I've 4x Hitachi Travelstar ( Mobile ) SATA 2.5" 9mm Internal drives and I thought I could find a NAS to use them. I came across TS-419P II NAS but don't see this drive in the compatibility list. So maybe a stupid question to ask but I will ask anyway as this NAS is appealing for the features it offers.

Does anyone using this drive and known working with this NAS?

It is unlikely that other people are using these drives in their NAS units, not because they are bad, but simply because 2.5" drives are typically more expensive per GigaByte than 3.5" drives. As most people want as much storage as possible within their budgets, they are likely to purchase 3.5" drives due to their lower cost.

QNAP maintains both a 3.5" HDD Compatibility list, and a 2.5" HDD Compatibility list, so check both lists, and see if your drive is listed. (You didn't provide a specific model number, so I couldn't check for you).

Your TS-419P-II supports both 3.5" and 2.5" drives. Be careful, particularly with 2.5" drives, as many contain "green" features, (due to their usual use in Laptops), and some manufacturers "green" features are incompatible with QNAP NAS units. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to check the compatibility lists prior to purchasing your drives. :D

I hope you are lucky and find your drives listed.

Patrick.

The drives are not listed on the compatibility list. I'll try to see if they work anyway once I get my nas.
