Hi Don,
donmesserli wrote:From reading this thread, I see that the screws QNAP shipped previously were #6-32 x 1/4". I have seen those screws available with 100 degree and 82 degree head angles. Which of these if correct for my TS209? Also, should they be undercut heads or not?
Of-topic here ... the subject WD4000FYYZ HDD has extremely short holes from below (and can't be mounted to the TS-209 due to software restriction).

Appears you are just asking for the common QNAP screw specs to mount the 3.%" HDD to the trays (from below).

Looks like 100° (otherwise the head is not flat and short enough) and undercut (the thread is fully cut to the undercut). I'm more in metric screws and aircraft bolts 8)

Regards,
-Kurt.

I am running into this exact issue with two WD Se 4TB drives (WD4000F9YZ). I'm about to order a box of these 6-32 3/8" flat-head undercut stainless steel screws so I can mount them properly.

McMaster-Carr also has them:

I did not even try Home Depot or Lowes (I'm in the USA), but I didn't think they would carry them. I'll try to remember to check next I'm there.

Replying to myself...

Received my box of 100 screws from McMaster Carr - and they would have fit perfectly *except* that the head is bigger than the countersink on the drive caddy. It sticks out far enough that a drive mounted in the caddy with these screws will not insert. It can at least be installed (loose in the tray) with the original screws.

QNAP did respond to my request for screws - they are sending me a box of 100. I wonder who their supplier is, and how long it will take the box to arrive.

I bought some screws from:

http://www.disctech.com

Item: Generic Part: #/MPN: SCR-CS-6-32-0.1875i-100-x20-BN-OE DiscTech Item #: SCR-CS-6-32-0.1875i-100-x20-BN-OE Counter-Sunk Screws (6/32 X 0.1875" With 100 Degree Angle) For QNAP Trays X 20

They work perfectly with my WD40000FYYZ and WD4002FYYZ 4TB disk drives in TS-453A caddies. The screws fit flush and the caddies slide in/out with no interference.
