Has anyone tried out the Hitachi Ultrastar He6 0F18335 6TB HUS726060AL ?
They are starting to become available but the price point US$/TB is rather high. I am tempted to purchase one for testing....
Cheers.

I will consider once its price drops around 400 euro and some reliability information comes out from early adopters.

Re: Hitachi Ultrastar He6 0F18335 6TB HUS726060AL
Received one (1) drive yesterday. Roughly twice the sequential read/write of a HGST 4TB 7200RPM drive. Random read/write about the same all according to Speedtools running on a Mac.
The Promise Pegasus2 enclosure did not like the drive very much...will try and install it in my TS1079 but not sure what one drive will tell me?!
Cheers.

So far the He6 is working without any issues as a Single Disk in my TS1079. Very fast.
If I win the lottery, I will buy 9 more:)
Cheers.

Received 2 more He6 drives to test RAID 5. Unfortunately both were defective.
Did some reading around and found a recent post by a moderator on Reduser who had 5 out of 5 fail.
Not sure of any statistical significance but as usual...waiting on these may not be bad idea.

Re: Hitachi Ultrastar He6 0F18335 6TB HUS726060AL
curious how this is going... 6TB HUS726060AL are $500 each which is $83/TB. 3TB are now $140 which is $46/TB.
4TB reds are $44.
Unfortunately for me, my TS-639pro is full of 3TB. I don't want to have to wipe/rebuild everything for 6x4TB ($1050) to just get a couple TB of space. Granted 6x$500 for 6TB is a pita too.

I'm curious as to how you would even physically mount one of these drives. I have a TS-569. Only two of the six screw holes on a drive tray line up with the screw holes on the drive. Even if you were satisfied mounting the drive with only two screws, the drive controller board is flush with the bottom of the drive, resulting in the board being pressed up against the tray. There is a thin sheet of stick-on plastic protecting the tray, but I wouldn't trust it for long in that environment. Maybe that's why so many are reporting drive failures.
