Hi
I am just wondering? Is it possible to migrate the hard disks in a TS-209 model to a newer QNAP model?

Not possible. TS-209 uses a non-standard (modified Ext3) format. You will need to copy the data from the TS-209 to your new NAS via the network. Once all your data has been successfully moved to the new NAS, you can wipe the TS-209, and set it up again, so that it becomes a backup destination for the new NAS. (NAS to NAS Backups are an excellent way of backing up your new NAS).ansj64 wrote:Hi

Thanks Patrick. By the way, thanks also for answering another query I had. But I had a follow up question to that and I was wondering if you could answer it. It's in the TS-209 forum. Stable.

And are the newer models standard EXT3 or EXT4 formats? I'd hate to have to buy a new set of hard drives every time I get new NASs...

Current models (using older firmware) support either standard Ext3 or Ext4. Current Firmware only creates Ext4 filesystems.ansj64 wrote:And are the newer models standard EXT3 or EXT4 formats? I'd hate to have to buy a new set of hard drives every time I get new NASs...

I have a similar situation but I have a TS210 that the will no longer register the second drive (drive two is plugged out) so I know I will have to buy a new unit, looking at the TS212P. Will I be able to make that transition. It will be pretty hard to do a back up and restore as I have 2 X 2TB drives, one is 95% full the other 50%.

The TS-210 uses a standard Ext3/Ext4 format depending Firmware installed. You can migrate drives from TS-210 to TS-212. If Drive 2 is failed, why not simply replace the drive?sciwalk wrote:I have a similar situation but I have a TS210 that the will no longer register the second drive (drive two is plugged out) so I know I will have to buy a new unit, looking at the TS212P. BTW, this is off-topic. You do not own a TS-209.

NAS to NAS means basically remote replication. Is that correct? I am trying to do that now but it seems to be quite slow? I see from the resource monitor of the destination NAS that I am just doing 3 MB/s but CPU % is almost nil. On the source NAS, my resource monitor says CPU usage is at almost 100% and my packets out is doing only around 1.7-2 MB/s

What exactly does it mean when one says NAS to NAS backup?
