TS420 RAM Upgrade

Post by winterfellstark »

Hi
I love my TS420, but I think it could do with a RAM upgrade.

Does anyone have any ideas what RAM I should get and are there any guides on replacing the RAM itself?

Cheers

Impossible! The RAM is not upgradeable on your NAS. In fact it is not upgradeable on any of QNAP's TS-x20/TS-x21 NAS models.

OK, thats a shame, it's the only downer on an otherwise great product, thanks for letting me know.

QNAP's Intel-based models are mostly RAM upgradable. QNAP entry-level Home/SOHO models are mostly not RAM upgradeable. QNAP SMB/Enterprise models mostly are RAM upgradable.
RAM modules are more expensive that soldered RAM, and RAM sockets cost money too. By not using socketed RAM, QNAP can lower production costs to try to keep their Home/SOHO models competitive. Their SMB/Enterprise models are a lot more expensive, but there are advantages to purchasing them.

My CEO (ie she who must be obeyed ) would have said "No" too, if I'd thought to ask her  , I simply sell off older toys to pay for new ones. As long as I don't spend "new money" on toys she tolerates this
