Impossible to decrypt internal HDD?

Post by Roensel »

Hello,

As a long time, proud, user of my TS-269 Pro, I rebooted my NAS yesterday, and the option to decrypt my internal HDD's is gone, just plain gone, whilst it was still there the last time I booted up my NAS. Here is a screenshot,of the menu where I'd normally unlock the HDD's:

Can you please help me out? I can't access some files I really need...

Not, we cannot help you out with a screenshot in unknown language of an unknown firmware version.

Right. The firmware version is 4.1.0 build 0612. I attached a screenshot below with the interface language set to English, hope this clears your remarks.

Thank you for your prompt answer!

ps: the interface language in the first post, it's Dutch ;-)

That screenshot would be perfectly accepttable over at: QNAP Club België & Nederland, but here in the QNAP NAS Community Forum we converse in English.

You can converse in either of your languages, we merely ask you to choose the appropriate language for the Forum you are using. If you are more comfortable in Nederlands, please feel free to take advantage of QNAP Club België & Nederland.

I'm not trying to be unfriendly, I am simply trying to help you find the right venue for your issue. Welcome to the QNAP NAS Community Forum.

Loud & clear. I made the erroneous assumption that the interface language wouldn't matter, as the menu in the attached screenshot clearly misses a few rows which should be there. For that I am sorry. Doktornotor already reminded me, that is why I retook that screenshot, with the interface language set to English.

Looking at the 9 error messages, maybe you could actually read them?

I did, those messages were unrelated [package upgrades, invalid login, and some MySQL errors]. I searched the logs for errors; last message about the HDD's or encryption was that I had succesfully unlocked them with the correct passphrase. Since then, nothing mentioning either the internal HDD's or encryption/decryption. And the option in 'Storage Manager' to unlock them is gone. Between the last unlock and now, I did nothing that could lead to this error.

The internal bays, both of them, contain a WD Red 3TB [WD30EFRX]. The interface states that their status is "good". They are hooked up in a RAID-1 array.

I was thinking about taking one of those two HDD's out, while the NAS is shut down. Might this have any effect? Are there downsides in removing one of the two drives whilst they have no errors/damaged sectors?

Looks like your device is having some serious issues. Would suggest contacting QNAP support after the weekend is over and leaving the thing alone meanwhile to avoid further damage.

Thanks! Will contact them. Should I just leave it running or is it better to turn it off completely, the normal way [via interface]?

Well, I'd rather leave it running since it seems that at least the SSH works for now :D -- which will be needed for remote assistance.
