These drives are in the Asia Pacific Seagate Expansion 2TB desktop external drives. They are very cheap in NZ just now. I can't find them listed in the QNAP compatibility chart.
Anyone tried these in a QNAP NAS and if so, any good?

Re: Seagate STBV2000300
Hm, STBV2000300 is the designator of the enclosure ... does the HDD in the enclosure carry the same number? Suspect much more there are these not-so-great STx000DM00x in there.johnvick wrote:These drives are in the Asia Pacific Seagate Expansion 2TB desktop external drives.
For example the Seagate 1 TB 2.5" Expansion Drive designated STBV1000100 does (for example) contain a ST1000LM024.

Hadn't spotted that was the enclosure number. From what I have seen in Australasian forums the drive is ST2000DM001. This does not appear on the QNAP compatibility list.

For good reasons. The more you find ST2000DM00x STx000DM00x and so on in the forum...johnvick wrote:This does not appear on the QNAP compatibility list.

Re: Seagate STBV2000300
These models are listed on the QNAP Incompatibility lists for some QNAP models however. We have repetatively requested that QNAP add these horrid droves to the Incompatibility lists for all QNAP models, but so far our requests are ignored by QNAP. I guess QNAP prefers to let their customer buy these horrid drives and suffer data loss, than actually support their customers by providing useful HCL's.schumaku wrote:For good reasons. Here is an excerpt from the TS-469L Incompatible HDD List for the Seagate ST3000DM001 drive:
Apparently QNAP believes they are only incompatible with "some" QNAP NAS Models.TS-469L Incompatible HDD List - Re: Seagate ST3000DM001 wrote: Seagate ST3000DM001 Desktop Drives Incompatible TS-469L
- (3TB & 4TB HDDs)
Not applicable to TS-509 Pro. TS-639 Pro does not support >16TB disk volume.- This hard drive series initially passed our lab compatibility test and was included in the recommended HDD list. However, during the last few months, we have received an overwhelming number of support requests regarding this hard drive series. The high failure rate of this hard drives series has raised concerns over risks of data loss. Therefore, we have no choice but to remove this series from the recommended HDD list. For users who have already installed this series of HDD on their Turbo NAS, QNAP will continue to provide technical supports as requested.
- The batch number, 1CH166, has passed the hard drive compatibility test.
I suppose we should recommend my TS-470 Pro NAS model to potential buyers, as it doesn't have any incompatible drives listed at all.
Perhaps John should use the Advanced search feature of this Forum System. (Top right corner of every page in this Forum). There are presently 827 posts that mention "ST3000DM001" alone, yet QNAP still can't be bothered to update the compatibility lists to protect it's customers from these unreliable non-RAID certified drives on all QNAP models.

Re: Seagate STBV2000300
I have three ST3000DM001 in my TS-420 and it is still on the list recommended drives. No problems so far at least and all my data is of course double backed up. I was thinking of adding a fourth but I'll look at another brand or model now.
