Mac OSX support

Postby DiscoveryTD5 » Tue Dec 27, 2011 5:33 pm

I just saw that Surveillance Station on a Synology NAS has now mac support. Is it the same software as QNap uses? Or can it be updated on Qnap?

I was hoping to use surveillance station as well, but so far no luck...
NAS: QNAP TS-210 with 2x2TB Samsung F3 HDD in RAID 1
Operating systems: MacOS X 10.8, iOS 6 (and via VMWare Fusion: Windows XP, Ubuntu).

The lack of mac functionality for surveillance station is a big let down. I hope this is fairly high up the 'to do' list.
It would be great to be able to copy the captured videos locally and play them in vlc instead of being forced to use alternative methods.

You can do this. Look at the 'recordings' share on your NAS.

Just checked again and not working for me:
(VLC is up to date at v1.1.12)
Only way possible for me is using internet explorer activeX (virtual machine or different PC)

Afraid, this is correct. VLC can handle the QNAP proprietary QMP4 containers - as running the Surveillance Station does install a dedicated Codec "pack" able to handle it. On a plain Windows system with VLC, this won't work, too.

Folks - here is some information from QNAP

Dear XXX

Thank you very much for coming to our FW 3.6 road-show event. I hope that you went home smiling after the presentation, and I apologize if you didn’t walk away with what you were looking for.

At the event, you’d like to know if you will be able to use Surveillance Station with your Mac, and the answer for the time being is no (as only IE is supported), but good news is that we currently are developing an utility that you can install on to your Mac to work with Surveillance Station on Turbo NAS, and the availability is around May. I’ll keep you updated as things develop.

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can be of any further help.

I also attended a recent qnap conference and heard the same thing, that in approximately 2 quarters we can expect some new surveillance features with mac support.

This is definately a welcomed step forwards however it is not a full fix. When I am at work there have been times when I would like to check the alarmed recordings. Due to security restrictions I am not able to install ActiveX components which means even from Internet Explorer (or copying from recordings folder) I will be unable to view alarmed recordings.

Vivotek IP camera not only can be used with the QNAP but also provides an apps (you have to pay) for iPad to view.
