Hello, I have a TS-109, which has two USB-disks connected to it in addition to an internal drive and e-SATA RAID backup.
The USBs are the same model number, a 500GB Latitude drive from Western Digital. One is formatted in the QNAP-preferred EXT3. The other I left formatted in FAT32 as it came, with the idea I would be able to take it away from the QNAP, hang it on a random PC, and be able to restore things that way.
I am currently trying to back up some data from a PC I am about to decommission onto the QNAP, using simple file copy. The PC is a 64-bit, and I am unable to get the files to copy completely using the Backup client -- I have reported this to QNAP in the past, but they have done nothing. So I must use simple file copy.
I find that the copy does not complete when I copy directly to the FAT32 disk -- I get a message in mid-copy that "the network resource is no longer available.". When I instead copy to the EXT3 disk, the copy has so far proceeded for several hours without interruption.
I next plan to try copying the results of my labour from the EXT3 disk to the FAT32 disk via the QNAP web-based utility, to see if that will fail. But I would like to ask already if this is a known problem, and if the solution might also be known?
Thank you,
ceb
