QNAP storage replication and HA clustering

Postby nappy_d » Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:58 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone know if I am able to configure two QNAPs together for storage replication and HA clustering?

Are there any links to documentation on how this works? If so please direct me to this info.

Thanks!!

I'm also interested if this can be done. We have a file share that has to be high availble. So I'm thinking about setting up 2 QNAP devices with RRTR, but then I would have to configure like a virtual IP address between those 2 nodes.

Anyone ever done that?

I'm also very interested in this, I have a SAN on my QNAP machine and I use a second QNAP for the backups, but it's not HA, I have a second SAN which runs on a HA openfiler (drbd+heartbeat) setup, so I wonder if it's possible to have the same setup on the QNAPs

thanks

From what I understand, QNAP does not currently support DRBD. So, I'm not sure what all is available for HA on QNAP, natively.

You can use Real-Time Remote Replication for replicating between two QNAP devices. However, this won't work on iSCSI LUNs without taking the LUN offline. Even then, it seems to be a bit convoluted to get working.

And remember, RTRR is one-way synchronization only!
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

no RTRR is not good, we need HA and cluster management, it's annoying that QNAP doesn't provide such basic feature, drbd is just a kernel module now, so it shouldn't be hard to implement
