My QNAP TVS-EC1080 is a week old. We just put it into production and then did the firmware update this evening.
This update has locked us out of our files and is generating errors for all users when they log in.
Config: We are joined to a domain with windows ACLs enabled.
We have a share called "roaming" which a group policy is redirecting the my documents folder. We are not using Home folders.
Each user has a my documents folder that was automatically created for them via the group policy.
Before the firmware update; we modified a few of the folder permissions so admins can also view the documents of the users.
We did the firmware update.
Now - whenever we log in (and while using our PC) we are getting errors that the recycle bin is corrupted against the My Pictures (and other folders) in the my documents share. Attempts to do anything generates an access denied error.
Worse - half the files in the directories are no longer accessible by the users. Admins lost access or ability to set permissions on each user's directory. Half the files are inaccessible to anyone except through the QNAP admin account in the file station. Any attempt to modify the permissions is generating access denied. We need to get these files unlocked for our users. It is on a random set of files/ folders so we don't have any idea of the extent of the issue.
We just spent days migrating to this box and setting up permissions. We smoke-tested in and took our previous server offline yesterday. We need to get this back on-line in the next 24 hours.
Please Advise.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: HELP: Latest Firmware destroyed file permissions
Also, we are not using advanced folder permissions (which is probably why the file station works). files. We set-up all our folder permissions through window's ACLs.

Re: HELP: Latest Firmware destroyed file permissions
We fixed the recycle bin error by removing the $RECYCLE file using winscp.
For permissions, after experimenting I was able to change ownership to everyone and enabled "other" permissions using winscp; from there was able to go back to windows and have each user take ownership of their directory; and then update the permissions. I am not familiar with unix permissioning so I am hoping this is an appropriate solution (we are almost done getting access to the files back; I believe they are all working as we did not get permission denied errors as permissions were being applied).
I assume that we did not do anything that is not supported (specifying folder-level permissions for AD users from windows) and that the settings should survive firmware updates. \\
