Qphoto Advanced folder permission
Hi all
I encountered an issue for the folder permission setup, anyone can help to check if it is impossible to do what I want?
I have two user Accounts of Group everyone:
- A
- B
I want create a folder that only B can access to store photo
Folders:
- Photo (Read only: A, B)
- Bphoto (Read only: B, Deny: A)
- Private (Read only: B, Deny:A)
In this situation, only B can read the photo in QFile but both A and B can read the photo in qPhoto.
If I set Deny A in the root path "Photo", A could not read all other photo in qPhoto.
Is there any way to do?

Yes it is possible.wtsming wrote:Hi all

Let me clarify, my problem is after the setup : only B can read the photo in QFile but both A and B can read the photo in qPhoto unexpectedly.

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
So fix your permissions to get the desired results. You have provided no useful troubleshooting information, so you'll need to figure it out yourself.wtsming wrote:pwilson wrote:Yes it is possible.wtsming wrote:Hi all

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
But the permission in the File station is correct, A is denied from reading B's photo. So I assume my permission setup is correct, just don't know why the QPhoto seems went wrong in processing the permission.

Prove this assertion. Please review Forum FAQ: Can I post images?wtsming wrote:But the permission in the File station is correct, A is denied from reading B's photo. So I assume my permission setup is correct, just don't know why the QPhoto seems went wrong in processing the permission.
You are still providing no information, so I'm not sure what you expect from the community. We can't help you without information.

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
I have done many tests, I think it's a bug, can anyone help to confirm?
Setup:
- MainFolder (User A and B are read only)
- SubFolder (User A is read only, B is deny)
- a photo is placed inside the subFolder
Test:
1. In File station, user A can access the photo, user B is denied. (This proves the permission setup is correct)
2. In Photo station, both user A and B can access the photo (My finding is Photo station only read first level of permission, i.e. If I set MainFolder deny user B, the photo will not be displayed to user B)
I really need the subfolder permission in photo station, if it is a bug, hope Qnap can fix it ASAP.

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
Hi,
I can confirm this behaviour. I have exactly the same problem and it seems to be a bug in QNAP Photostation.
I cannot grant access to a user (e.g. a friend) to photos in just a specific folder. The user will always see ALL photos (all folders in multimedia) for whatever reason

Thanks fgenaehr
This is an important feature for the photo station. So current workaround is to separate folders into different root-folder.
Anywhere I can fire a bug?

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
Hi,
I have exactly the same behaviour. Users that are denied access to subfolder A but have read access to subfolder B can still view the photos in folder A, which they are not supposed to.
I have had several teamviewer sessions August last year with QNAP support. They confirmed the strange behavior with the correct settings and told me it was indeed a bug to be put on the backlog for fixing. Never heard any update since then
Last week I completely reset to factory settings. I had slight hope it was a glitch in my installation which would now be resolved. Unfortunately still the same problem....

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
I am happy to see that this problem is known !! I spent my night yesterday trying to understand what's wrong !! I did the same configuration and got the same issue !
/RF/SF1 (A,B,C : RW)
/RF/SF2 (A,C : RW, B: DENY)
/RF/SF3 (A, B : RW, C: DENY)
with /RF in RO.
All of A, B and C can see and use SF1, SF2 and SF3 !
If one of A, B or C is Denied in the root folder (RF), it can't access RF and subfolder.
Could you please help fixing this issue ? I bought my NAS espacially to perform that type of tasks !
Should we open a ticket to fix this ? I see that the subject was opened in 2014 !!!

Re: Qphoto Advanced folder permission
Have just bought a qnap TS-251A a couple of weeks ago and have just spent a day trying to sort this out.
What's the point in having folder level permissions if they are going to be ignored.
Did Qnap ever fix this?
